Cells cultured from human giant cell tumors of bone were characterized on the basis of morphological features, proliferative capacity, presence of granulocyte-monocyte antigens, receptors for skeletal hormones, and soluble cell products. Three major cell types were identified. One population consisted of mononuclear cells with fibroblastic morphology, which proliferated in culture and most like...
The experimental data of Takahashi [Physica D 43, 318 (1990)], on the response of squid giant axons stimulated by periodic sequence of short current pulses is interpreted within the Hodgkin-Huxley model. The minimum of the firing rate as a function of the stimulus amplitude I0 in the high-frequency regime is due to the multimodal transition. Below this singular point only odd multiples of the d...
The authors described a case of giant cell myocarditis treated by heart transplantation.
OBJECTIVE In Europe giant cell arteritis (GCA) is more common in Scandinavian countries than in southern regions. Epidemiological studies on GCA in other more distant countries have indicated a progressive increase in incidence. A regular cyclical pattern in incidence of GCA over 20 years has been reported in Olmsted County (Minnesota, USA). In contrast, no cyclical fluctuation has been recentl...
Idiopathic giant cell myocarditis has not been previously reported from Australasia; a typical case is presented, and the clinical and pathological findings discussed. Possible aetiologies are discussed in the light of positive serology to coxsackie B viruses.

the clinical and histological feature of 52 years old woman with erythema induratum are discribed the characteristic cutaneous lesions on the legs of middle-aged woman were violaceous, indurated nodules, 1 to 2 cm in diameter which were painful, occasionally ulcerated and could heal with scarring. the diagnosis was confirmed by a strongly positive tuberculin test, histologic feature and by clea...
Objective Previous studies, although inconclusive, have suggested possible associations of environmental risk factors with the development of giant cell arteritis (GCA). We aim to investigate seasonal influence on the incidence of GCA across Australia and New Zealand. Methods In establishing an international study to investigate the molecular aetiology of GCA, archived temporal artery biopsy ...
Cutaneous involvement in giant cell arteritis is quite uncommon. A patient is described who presented with pretibial skin lesions clinically indistinguishable from erythema nodosum which, on biopsy, showed subcutaneous pannicular giant cell vasculitis. Cutaneous manifestations of giant cell arteritis are subsequently reviewed.
