Length and g-factor are fundamental parameters that characterize optical cavities. We developed a technique to measure these parameters in situ by determining the frequency spacing between the resonances of fundamental and spatial modes of an optical cavity. Two laser beams are injected into the cavity, and their relative frequency is scanned by a phase-lock loop, while the cavity is locked to ...

A spectral built-in self test (BIST) solution for integrated cellular RF transmitters is presented that enables on-chip verification of PLL spectral performance. Multi-tone FM test signals with a spurious-free dynamic range (SFDR) of 60 dB are generated without compromising the performance of the RF transmitter itself. The RF signal is demodulated and digitized in an on-chip digital FM discrimi...

Directly modulated fiber-optic links generally suffer higher link loss and larger signal distortion than externally modulated links. These result from the electron-photon conversion loss and laser modulation dynamics. As a method to overcome the drawbacks, we have experimentally demonstrated the RF performance of directly modulated, ultra-strong injection-locked gain-lever distributed Bragg ref...

A dual RF-receiver preceded by discrete-step attenuators is implemented in 65nm CMOS and operates from 0.3– 1.0 GHz. The noise of the receivers is reduced by cross-correlating the two receiver outputs in the digital baseband, allowing attenuation of the RF input signal to increase linearity. With this technique a displayed average noise level below -169 dBm/Hz is obtained with +25 dBm IIP3, giv...

Laser interferometer gravitational wave detectors can be operated at their free spectral range frequency. We show that in this case and when the interferometer is well understood one could detect a stochastic background using a single detector.
