This paper is concerned with optimization of surface roughness when drilling of stainless steel SS304 with HSS drill. This study included drilling of SS304 with supply of Sic abrasive having grain size 650 and 1250 mesh size through abrasive slurry system. Abrasives not only used for cooling purpose but also increases the surface finish, MRR and reduce tool wear. Experiments were conducted on a...

Abstract A novel manufacturing tool called sandwich flexible elastic grinding wheel is developed to achieve high material removal rates and machined finish of a mould steel. This made aluminium matrix, ethylene propylene rubber layer abrasive layer. Ethylene has great elasticity produces deformation when contacting with the workpiece. With existence an layer, rigidity at small scales allows occ...

Wood processing industries have continuously developed and improved technologies and processes to transform wood to obtain better final product quality and thus increase profits. Abrasive machining is one of the most important of these processes and therefore merits special attention and study. The objective of this work was to evaluate and demonstrate a process monitoring system for use in the...

In the metal cutting process, the friction and wear behavior between the cutting tool and machined surface is the most important factor that affects the surface quality and the service life of the cutter. The irregular pore structure of porous titanium alloy has changed its mechanical properties and the processing technology. The friction and wear mechanism of the cutting tool and the machined ...

This research aims to present a novel approach in magnetic abrasive finishing improve its potential for creating different patterns the free-form surface using no special fixtures or tool machines minimize complexity of process. The key point this idea is that particles can move by transfer fields (similar train moving on rail) and create desired polishing simultaneously. coils are placed under...

Results from experiments on the removal of copper using chemical mechanical polishing ~CMP! by alumina abrasives suspended in deionized water are reported. The experiments were carried out in a benchtop polishing tool using IC1000 perforated pads and SUBA 500 pads. The removal rate was measured over a good range of values of the relative velocity and pressure, and for different values of the ab...

Tool wear in turning of pure aluminum and drilling of carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP)/titanium (Ti) stacks was investigated due to their importance in modern manufacturing. Although pure aluminum is a ductile metal while CFRP contains brittle carbon fibers, there exist also few important similarities which impact tool wear. For instance, neither work material contains inclusions harder ...

The relationship between the wear of three composite resins and the hardness of the abrasive was studied by a two-body abrasion test. The wear rates of the composites increased linearly with abrasive hardness from 530 to 2080 KHN. Measurement of the slope of the wear rate versus abrasive hardness over this range provided a sensitive method for ranking the composites.
