The vast majority of soft tissue sarcomas metastasize initially to the lungs. We report a 71-year-old woman with malignant fibrous histiocytoma of the right buttock and thigh that metastasized to the bilateral adrenal glands without development of pulmonary metastasis. Whole-body [F-18]FDG PET-CT showed abnormal tracer uptakes in the bilateral adrenal glands in addition to high accumulation in ...

Muscle injuries are the most common musculoskeletal injuries encountered by physicians. Muscle undergoes time-dependent phases of healing, which ultimately result in residual fibrosis in the injured area. Fibrous tissue impedes the muscle healing process by forming a physical barrier that limits myoblast migration and fusion, which in turn creates an unsuitable environment for regenerating myof...

Dr. Enzinger was the primary editor of the first soft tissue World Health Organization (WHO) book in 1969, entitled “Histological Typing of Soft Tissue Tumours.” Although he had not yet described angiomatoid “malignant” fibrous histiocytoma (A(M)FH), giant cell fibroblastoma (GCF), or plexiform fibrohistiocytic tumor (PFHT), he had already considered the concept of a fibrous tumor of intermedia...

Fibrous histiocytoma is a benign soft tissue tumour arising as a fibrous mass everywhere in the human body. The involvement of the oral cavity is rare. We report two cases of benign fibrous histiocytoma that localized in the oral cavity. The clinical and histological features of the lesion are reported. Finally, a literature revision of this pathology at the level of the oral cavity is reported.

Nano-fibrous scaffolds which could potentially mimic the architecture of extracellular matrix (ECM) have been considered a good candidate matrix for cell delivery in tissue engineering applications. In the present study, a semicrystalline diblock copolymer, poly(epsilon-caprolactone)-block-poly(L-lactide) (PCL-b-PLLA), was synthesized and utilized to fabricate nano-fibrous scaffolds via a therm...

Malignant fibrous histiocytoma is a high-grade and aggressive sarcoma. It is a type of histiocytoma that is the most common soft tissue sarcoma of late adult life. These tumors rarely involve the head and neck region. Wide excision followed by postoperative radiotherapy is believed to be the treatment of choice for malignant fibrous histiocytoma. We present a rare case of malignant fibrous hist...

Fibrous dysplasia is abnormal proliferation of fibrous tissue interspersed with normal or immature bone. The records of 11 cases of fibrous dysplasia of paranasal sinuses with skull base involvement were reviewed. Six patients were polyostotic and 5 were classified as monostotic fibrous dysplasia. Four cases were managed endoscopically and only 1 patient had undergone right lateral craniotomy f...

Fibrous dysplasia is a benign fibroosseous lesion characterised by the replacement of normal bone by excessive proliferation of cellular fibrous connective tissue which is slowly replaced by bone, osteoid, or cementum-like material. It causes bone pain, deformities, and pathological fractures. Fibrous dysplasia (FD) is a sporadic benign skeletal disorder that can affect one bone (monostotic for...

INTRODUCTION Implantation of a penile prosthesis into fibrosed corpora cavernosa is a difficult and risky procedure. Specialized instruments that assist safer and more efficient excavation include Otis Urethrotome and various cavernotomes, all of which operate underneath the tunica albuginea, out of sight. The blind use of such instruments can result in perforation of the tunica albuginea or in...

Introduction Fibrous dysplasia is a non-hereditary disease of childhood, of unknown etiology, in which fibrous tissue replaces normal bone. There is a wide spectrum of involvement, from asymptomatic isolated bonelesions to severe debilitation and the rare Albright’s syndrome of osteitis fibrosa disseminata, hyperpigmented skin lesions and endocrine dysfunction (Albright et al. 1937). The follow...
