A neural-network-based approach is presented to efficiently implement digital backpropagation (DBP). For a 32×100 km fiber-optic link, the resulting “learned” DBP significantly reduces the complexity compared to conventional DBP implementations. The addition of steel fibers into concrete improves the postcracking tensile strength of hardened concrete and hence significantly enhances the shear strength of reinforced concrete reinforced concrete beams. However, developing an accurate model for predicting the shear strength of steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC) beams is a challenging task as there are several parameters such as the co...

there is a worldwide interest in using fibers of different types in concrete mixtures. in this regard, as the use of pet fibers has gradually increased during the last decade, this study aims to investigate the effects of pet fibers on the mechanical properties of hardened concrete and the workability of fresh concrete. to this end, different contents of pet fibers (pc= %0, %0.5, %1 and %1.5) a...

High angular resolution diffusion imaging (HARDI) has opened up new perspectives for the delineation of crossing and branching fiber pathways by orientation distribution function (ODF). The fiber orientations contained in an imaging voxel are the key factor in tractography. To extract real fiber orientations from ODF, a hybrid method is proposed for computing the principal directions of ODF by ...

Modeling cloth with fiber-level geometry can produce highly realistic details. However, rendering fiber-level cloth models not only has a high memory cost but it also has a high computation cost even for offline rendering applications. In this paper we present a real-time fiber-level cloth rendering method for current GPUs. Our method procedurally generates fiber-level geometric details on-the-...

We report on the fabrication and optical assessment of an all-solid tellurite-glass photonic bandgap fiber. The manufacturing process via a preform drawing approach and the fiber characterization procedures are described and discussed. The fiber exhibits some minor morphological deformations that do not prevent the observation of optical confinement within the fiber by bandgap effects. The expe...

Functional interactions between different brain regions require connecting fiber tracts, the structural basis of the human connectome. To assemble a comprehensive structural understanding of neural network elements from the microscopic to the macroscopic dimensions, a multimodal and multiscale approach has to be envisaged. However, the integration of results from complementary neuroimaging tech...

Among the several architectures for IP (Internet Protocol) over WDM networks, one promising approach is to overlay a logical topology that consists of lightpaths on the physical WDM network, such that each lightpath carries IP traffic between edge nodes. Many of the conventional methods for designing the logical topology deal with the case of a constant number of wavelengths being available on ...

In this paper, pile behavior embedded in layered soil deposits subjected to seismic loadings is analyzed using a nonlinear fiber element for simulation of soil – pile interactions. In the created model, both pile and surrounding soil are modeled using fiber elements in a practical Beam on Nonlinear Winkler Foundation (BNWF) concept. Herein, the features of DRAIN–3DX finite element software are ...

The principal effects of mass degradation on polymer matrix composites (PMCs) are the decay of mechanical properties such as strength, elongation, and resilience. This degradation is a common problem of the PMCs under thermal cycling conditions. In this article, composite degradation was investigated by measurement of total mass loss (TML) using the Taguchi approach. Thermal cycling tests were ...
