background and aims: extended-spectrum β-lactamase (esbl) producing gram negative bacteria are resistant to penicillins, narrow and extended-spectrum cephalosporins, and aztreonam; also they are frequently resistant to trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, aminoglycosides, and quinolones. this study aimed to investigate the prevalence of plasmid-mediated quinolone resistance (pmqr) determinants qnra, ...
Extended spectrum beta lactamases (ESBLs) that mediate resistance to 3rd generation cephalosporins are now observed worldwide in all species of Enterobacteriaceae especially Klebsiella pneumoniae and Escherichia coli. ESBL producing organisms are responsible for nosocomial infections and may result in hospital outbreaks. Present study is a descriptive study. It was planned to determine the freq...
AIM The aim of this study was to characterize beta-lactamase antimicrobial resistance in Klebsiella and Enterobacter species isolated from healthy and diarrheic dogs in Andhra Pradesh. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 136 rectal swabs were collected from healthy (92) and diarrheic (44) dogs, bacteriological cultured for Klebsiella and Enterobacter growth and screened for beta-lactamase antimi...
Carbapenems (CARBs) are the primary treatment for infections caused by extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL)-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae strains. Production of a serine carbapenemase, KPC, is increasing alarmingly in the United States and is probably contributing to CARB resistance rates. We describe the clinical and molecular characteristics of four infections caused by KPC-3 K. pneumoni...
We report here the incidental detection and complete genome sequence of a urinary Escherichia coli strain harboring mcr-1 and resistant to colistin in a New York patient returning from Portugal in 2016. This strain, with sequence type 1485 (ST1485), was a non-extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) and non-carbapenemase producer and carried the mcr-1 gene on an IncHI2 plasmid.
An Italian nationwide survey was carried out to assess the prevalences and the antimicrobial susceptibilities of members of the family Enterobacteriaceae producing extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBLs). Over a 6-month period, 8,015 isolates were obtained from hospitalized patients and screened for resistance to extended-spectrum cephalosporins and monobactams. On the basis of a synergistic ...
Extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL)-producing Enterobacteria has become a considerable global concern because of their potential dissemination in humans, in domestic animals, wildlife and the environment. The present study aimed to explore the ESBL producing enterobacteria in aquatic sources of Bangladesh as the water may be the potential source of dissemination of this alarming ant...
BACKGROUND This study was carried out in Microbiology department of Army Medical College, Rawalpindi to find out the frequency of extended spectrum beta lactamase producing gram negative bacilli among clinical isolates recovered from clinical specimens received from Military Hospital, Rawalpindi. METHODS This study was carried out from 1st Jan 2002 to 30th Dec 2002. A total of 812 consecutive...
Here, a complete genome sequence of Wohlfahrtiimonas chitiniclastica strain BM-Y is presented. The whole genome is 2.18-Mb and contains a blaVEB-1 gene cassette which endows it with resistance to ceftazidime, ampicillin, tetracycline, etc. To our knowledge, this is the first time that an extended spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) type W. chitiniclastica strain has been found.
background: and objectives: salmonella infections are endemic in many developing countries with poor sanitary conditions, but emerge sporadically as a serious public health threat in developed countries. infections with multidrug resistant (mdr) strains of salmonella have been associated with treatment failures. salmonella spp. resistant to extended spectrum cephalosporins are increasing in pre...
