This study was undertaken to find out gross and microscopic pulmonary lesions of dromedary camels in the central part of Iran. The grossly affected lungs from 100 camels with different ages and unknown history were collected from freshly slaughtered animals at Najafabad abattoir and examined grossly and histopathologically. The pathological changes observed were purulent bronchopneumonia (I%), ...
camel is a resistant species to drought and cold weather and produces milk and meat in harshest environmental condition. camel population in iran has been decreasing during last decades, and genetic studies are quite necessary for considering the conservation and productivity of this species. in this study growth hormone gene influencing growth, milk production and reproduction was considered. ...
We identified the near-full-genome sequence (29,908 nt, >99%) of Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) from a nasal swab specimen from a dromedary camel in Egypt. We found that viruses genetically very similar to human MERS-CoV are infecting dromedaries beyond the Arabian Peninsula, where human MERS-CoV infections have not yet been detected.
Evidence of current and past Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) infection in dromedary camels slaughtered at an abattoir in Kano, Nigeria in January 2015, was sought by reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) and serology. MERS-CoV RNA was detected in 14 (11%) of 132 nasal swabs and antibody in 126 (96%) of 131 serum samples. Phylogenetic anal...
To the Editor: Hepatitis E virus (HEV) is a member of the family Hepeviridae, genus Orthohepevirus, which comprises 4 species, Orthohepevirus A–D. Orthohepevirus A contains 7 genotypes (HEV1–7) (1,2). HEV1 and HEV2 infect humans only; HEV3, HEV4, and HEV7 can infect humans and other mammals; and HEV5 and HEV6 have been detected in animals only. Worldwide, HEV is the most common cause of acute v...
analyzing the synovial fluid is one of the common methods to diagnose the articular problems to detect the stage and express the prognosis. such gross, cytological, and biochemical analysis of synovial fluids can aid in the diagnosis of various joint diseases. objectives: normal values for synovial fluid in the camels have been described previously; however, there are no reports regarding conce...
BACKGROUND Daily rhythmicity has been observed for a number of hormonal and behavioral variables in mammals. It can be entrained by several external factors, such as light-dark cycle and scheduled feeding. In dromedary camels, daily rhythmicity has been documented only for melatonin secretion and body temperature. In this study, the daily rhythmicity of behavioral repertoire, cortisol and testo...
A countrywide survey in Oman revealed Middle Eastrespiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) nucleicacid in five of 76 dromedary camels. Camel-derivedMERS-CoV sequences (3,754 nucleotides assembled from partial sequences of the open reading frame (ORF)1a, spike, and ORF4b genes) from Oman and Qatar were slightly different from each other, but closely related to human MERS-CoV sequences from the...
The objective of this study was to compare three superovulation protocols in dromedary camels. Follicular waves of dromedary camel donors (n=6) were synchronized using two GnRH injections. Superovulation was initiated 2 days after the second injection (day 0 of experiment). The experiment was conducted using change over design, where all females received three superovulation treatments one afte...
