A simple multiscale approach to the diffusion-driven adsorption from a solution to a solid surface is presented. The model combines two important features of the adsorption process: (i) the kinetics of the chemical reaction between adsorbing molecules and the surface; and (ii) geometrical constraints on the surface made by molecules which are already adsorbed. The process (i) is modelled in a d...

A new method is presented which combines a forward and an image operator (resolution function) to construct a simulated migrated seismic section from a geological depth model. To efficiently use this tool during seismic interpretation, a fast implementation is necessary. This is achieved by improving the performance of the serial algorithm.

This paper is motivated by the theory of sequential dynamical systems, developed as a basis for a mathematical theory of computer simulation. It contains a classification of finite dynamical systems on binary strings, which are obtained by composing functions defined on the coordinates. The classification is in terms of the dependency relations among the coordinate functions. It suggests a natu...

We propose three efficient sequential designs in the software reliability estimation. The fully sequential design the multistage sequential design and the accelerated sequential design. These designs make allocation decisions dynamically throughout the testing process. We then refine these estimated reliabilities in an iterative manner as we sample. Monte Carlo simulation seems to indicate that...

This paper investigates the reduction of variance associated with a simulation output performance measure, using the Sequential Sampling method while applying minimum simulation replications, for a class of JIT (Just in Time) warehousing system called crossdocking. We initially used the Sequential Sampling method to attain a desired 95% confidence interval half width of ± 0.5 for our chosen per...

Physiological simulators which are intended for use in clinical environments face harsh expectations from medical practitioners; they must cope with significant levels of uncertainty arising from non-measurable parameters, population heterogeneity and disease heterogeneity, and their validation must provide watertight proof of their applicability and reliability in the clinical arena. This pape...

Although simulation is a well-established learning method in Finland, sequential simulations are still uncommon. The objective of this project was to pilot interprofessional, demonstrating acute clinical pathways. objectives were communication and collaboration. Two groups consisting nursing emergency care students planned the exercises. Other participants medical students, biomedical science r...
