Biorthogonal wavelet-based full-approximation schemes are introduced in this paper for the numerical solution of elasto-hydrodynamic lubrication line and point contact problems. The proposed methods give higher accuracy in terms of better convergence with low computational time, which have been demonstrated through the illustrative problems.

We consider the coupling between three-dimensional (3D) and one-dimensional (1D) fluidstructure interaction (FSI) models describing blood flow inside compliant vessels. The 1D model is a hyperbolic system of partial differential equations. The 3D model consists of the Navier-Stokes equations for incompressible Newtonian fluids coupled with a model for the vessel wall dynamics. A non standard fo...

Buildings with either complex geometric shapes or structural systems with noncoincident centers of mass and resistance, or both, may undergo three-dimensional ~3D! coupled motions when exposed to spatiotemporally varying dynamic wind loads. To capture the dynamic load effects, this paper presents a framework for the analysis of 3D coupled dynamic response of buildings and modeling of the equiva...

In this paper an efficient approach to simulate thermal stresses due to frictional heating of disc brakes is presented. In the approach thermal and stress analysis are performed sequentially. The frictional heat analysis is based on the Eulerian method, which requires significantly low computational time as compared to the Lagrangian approach. Complete three-dimensional geometries of a disc and...

In this paper, we review some recent results on the analysis and efficient computation for the dynamics of rotating two-component Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs). We begin with the three-dimensional (3D) coupled GrossPitaevskii equations (GPEs) with an angular momentum rotation term and an external driving field, show how to scale it into dimensionless form, reduce it to a 2D and 1D GPE in the...

The various industrial and engineering applications of flow of fluid between parallel plates have continued to generate renewed interests. In this work, a comparative study of approximate analytical methods is carried out using differential transformation, homotopy perturbation, Adomian decomposition, variation of parameter and variational iteration methods for the analysis of a steady two-dimen...

Synopsis The failure of landslide dam formed by mass movements may occur by sudden sliding of the dam body. So, this study focuses on three-dimensional (3D) transient seepage and slope stability analysis of landslide dam. The 3D slope stability model coupled with transient seepage flow model is used for numerical simulations. Experiments are performed in the flume to measure movement of moistur...

In this paper, stability of slopes with a shallow foundation located on top including the shape of the failure mechanism is investigated in static and seismic states. This is a three dimensional problem which is analyzed two dimensionally because 3D analyses are complex and appropriate softwares are not available. The conventional method of bearing capacity evaluation of foundations on top of ...

This paper presents a probabilistic assessment on the free vibration analysis of functionally graded material plates, including layers with magneto-electro-elastic properties, using the 3D solution and surrogate models. The plate is located on an elastic foundation and the intra-layer slipping effect is also considered in the analysis by employing the generalized intra-layer spring model. Due t...

A semi-analytical solution is presented for three dimensional elastic analysis of finitelylong, simply supported, orthotropic, laminated cylindrical panels with piezoelectric layers subjected to outer pressure and electrostatic excitation. Both the direct and inverse piezoelectric effects are investigated. The solution is obtained through reducing the highly coupled partial differential equatio...
