In this study, we consider a permutation flow shop scheduling problem on a three-machine with deteriorating jobs (a deteriorating job means that the job’s processing time is an increasing function of its starting time) so as to minimize the makespan. We model job deterioration as a function that is proportional to a linear function of time. For some special cases, we prove that the problem can ...

This paper studies the single-machine scheduling problem with deteriorating jobs and learning considerations. The objective is to minimize the makespan. We first show that the schedule produced by the largest growth rate rule is unbounded for our model, although it is an optimal solution for the scheduling problem with deteriorating jobs and no learning. We then consider three special cases of ...

A block iterative method is used for solving linear least squares problems. The subproblems are solved asynchronously on a distributed memory multiprocessor. It is observed that an increased number of processors results in deteriorating rate of convergence. This deteriorating convergence is illustrated by numerical experiments. The deterioration of the convergence can be explained by contaminat...

In this paper a single server queuing production system is considered which is subject to gradual deterioration. The system is discussed under two different deteriorating conditions. A planning horizon is considered and server which is a D/M/1 queuing system is gradually deteriorates through time periods. A maintenance policy is taken into account whereby the server is restored to its initial ...

This paper deals with a deterministic inventory model for deteriorating items under the condition of permissible delay in payments with constant demand rate is a function of time which differs from before and after deterioration for a single item. Shortages are allowed and completely backlogged which is a function of time. Under these assumptions, this paper develops a retailer's model for obta...

In this paper we consider a single machine scheduling problem with deteriorating jobs. By deteriorating jobs, we mean that the processing time of a job is a simple linear function of its execution starting time. For the jobs with chain precedence constraints, we prove that the weighted sum of squared completion times minimization problem with strong chains and weak chains can be solved in polyn...

The acutely deteriorating patient is a challenge to even the most seasoned provider. The ability to diagnosis the underlying condition quickly and accurately is vital to a successful outcome. We present a review of 10 critical aspects in the management of the crashing patient, based on up-to-date guidelines and organized as an easily remembered mnemonic. The A-A-B-B-C-C-D-D-E-E's of the deterio...

In this paper, a BPRE (branching process in random environments) is presented, in which a population development in deteriorating environments is described. Some primary results on process growth and extinction probability are shown. At last, two simple numerical examples that attempt to simulate the probability model are given to help understand its mathematical framework.

A lifetime optimization methodology for planning the inspection and repair of structures that deteriorate over time is introduced and illustrated through numerical examples. The optimization is based on minimizing the expected total life-cycle cost while maintaining an allowable lifetime reliability for the structure. This method incorporates: (a) the quality of inspection techniques with diffe...
