Fusion and talon cusps are rare developmental dental anomalies affecting both primary and permanent dentitions. Talon cusps normally occur on the palatal surface of permanent maxillary incisors, while fused teeth are more common in the primary anterior dentition. The maxillary lateral incisor is the second most frequently missing tooth in the dental arch. The aim of this study was to review literature data for maxillary lateral incisor agenesis, unilateral and bilateral, and associated dental anomalies in an orthodontic population. Research suggests that several clinical features are commonly seen, dental anomalies commonly associated with agenesis of ...
Dental anomaly in number, size and shape might be due to excessive activation of dental lamina during the morpho-differentiation stage. Fusion is one of the most unusual and rare anomalies of shape of the teeth. It frequently involves the supernumerary teeth resulting in a challenging differential diagnosis with gemination. Dental anomalies may result in different problems such as delayed erupt...
Fifty-three patients were examined for dental abnormalities at an institution specializing in care of the mentally deficient in Bauru, São Paulo State. The incidence of teeth with abnormal morphology, mainly second molars with an abnormal number of cusps, was extremely high. Enamel hypoplasia was frequently found in anterior teeth, and the percentage of fractured maxillary incisors was signific...
RIEGER'S dysgenesis mesodermalis iridis et corneae, caused by a faulty differentiation in the anterior segment, is not limited to the mesodermal structures of the eye, but demonstrates a range of ectodermal anomalies as well. This is why Hagedoorn (1937) suggested the term "dysgenesis mesostromalis", stressing the frequent occurrence of ectodermal developmental anomalies of the iris and lens, c...
Oculofaciocardiodental (OFCD) syndrome is characterized by ocular, facial, cardiac, and dental abnormalities. Radiculomegaly affecting canines is pathognomonic dental finding. Dentists should be aware of the somatic anomalies potentially associated with radiculomegaly. We report a case of OFCDS and provide the description of the challenges in endodontic treatment of gigantic roots.
