Spectral attenuation and absorption coefficients of particulate matter and colocated hydrographic measurements were obtained in the Mid-Atlantic Bight during the fall of 1996 and the spring of 1997 as part of the Coastal Mixing and Optics experiment. Within the bottom boundary layer (BBL) the magnitude of the beam attenuation decreased and its spectral shape became steeper with distance from th...

background: in this study, quantitative 32p bremsstrahlung planar and spect imaging and consequent dose assessment were carried out as a comprehensive phantom study to define an appropriate method for accurate dosimetry in clinical practice. materials and methods: ct, planar and spect bremsstrahlung images of jaszczak phantom containing a known activity of 32p were acquired. in addition, phanto...

The dependence of the speed of sound and the attenuation coefficient upon exposure frequency, in the range of 1-5 MHz, and upon level of inflation, in the range of mass density 0.35-0.7 g/cm3, are reported. The speed of sound decreases linearly and the attenuation coefficient increases exponentially, for all levels of inflation studied.

PURPOSE Microcomputed tomography (micro-CT) is increasingly used as a nondestructive alternative to ashing for measuring bone mineral content. Phantoms are utilized to calibrate the measured x-ray attenuation to discrete levels of mineral density, typically including levels up to 1000 mg HA/cm3, which encompasses levels of bone mineral density (BMD) observed in trabecular bone. However, levels ...

gol-e-gohar iron ore mine of sirjan in southern part of iran is a large open pit that operates below the groundwater table and during mining operation, dewatering is required to prevent operation processes from flooding. current operation is going on by digging wells in or out of the pit and pumping to prevent flooding. as a result of the former dewatering operation a vast deep cone of depressi...

High purity Cu single crystals doped with Mg, Ag, Pb, Sb, Bi (20-50 ppm) were isochronally annealed between 373 K and 923 K after 0.12% deformation at room temperature. After each annealing step the dependence of sound attenuation on frequency (10 200 MHz) and bias stress (cyclic compression/tension; peak amplitudes below plastic yield) was measured. From the latter experiment specific informat...

BACKGROUND The correction of γ-photon attenuation in PET-MRI remains a critical issue, especially for bone attenuation. This problem is of great importance for brain studies due to the density of the skull. Current techniques for skull attenuation correction (AC) provide indirect estimates of cortical bone density, leading to inaccurate estimates of brain activity. The purpose of this study was...

Dislocations in solids contribute to anelastic attenuation, relaxation of the shear modulus, transient creep, and steady state flow. These properties of the mantle may therefore be related. The glide and climb of dislocations appear to have the appropriate time constants to explain seismic wave attenuation and mantle viscosity, respectively. The dislocation density of the mantle depends on the ...

Acoustic energy density’s dependence on particle velocity as well as acoustic pressure makes it a good candidate for an error signal in an adaptive noise control algorithm. It has been shown that minimizing acoustic energy density often provides more global attenuation of an enclosed sound field than minimizing squared acoustic pressure. Nodal regions in three-dimensional enclosed sound fields ...
