A total of 16 Taenia multiceps isolates collected from naturally infected sheep or goats in Gansu Province, China were characterized by sequences of mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (cox1) gene. The complete cox1 gene was amplified for individual T. multiceps isolates by PCR, ligated to pMD18T vector, and sequenced. Sequence analysis indicated that out of 16 T. multiceps isolates 10...

Deficiency of cytochrome c oxidase activity was established in a girl born to consanguineous parents. She showed symptoms of dysmaturity, generalized hypotonia, myoclonic seizures and progressive respiratory failure, leading to death on the seventh day of life. Structural abnormalities of the central nervous system consisted of severe cerebellar hypoplasia and optic nerve atrophy. Biochemical a...

With millions of species and their life-stage transformations, the animal kingdom provides a challenging target for taxonomy. Recent work has suggested that a DNA-based identification system, founded on the mitochondrial gene, cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (COI), can aid the resolution of this diversity. While past work has validated the ability of COI sequences to diagnose species in certain ...

The Black, Azov, Caspian and Aral Seas, remnants of the intracontinental Paratethys basin, are home to a spectacular diversity of crustaceans. This study examines the past history of the Ponto-Caspian fauna through comparative phylogeographical studies on both benthic and planktonic taxa, based on an examination of nucleotide diversity in the mitochondrial, cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (COI) ...

Abstract Trichinellosis is a zoonosis caused by nematodes of the Trichinella genus, which 10 species have been described. Species identification when larvae found only possible using molecular tools. Meat from pigs and game animals not subjected to veterinary inspection are main sources human infections. The hunting native carnivores prohibited in Chile due conservation issues fact that those f...

Two new species of anthuroid isopods, Caenanthura koreana sp. nov. and Apanthura koreaensis sp. nov. are described from the southern and western coasts of the Korean Peninsula. A key to the species and the type locality of Caenanthura are provided. Additionally, we determined the partial sequences of the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (CO1) from two new species.

The effects of digitonin and tocopherol on bovine heart reduced diphosphopyridine nucleotideand succinate-cytochrome c reductases and cytochrome c oxidase have been studied with the following results. 1. Low concentrations of digitonin stimulate succinateand DPNH-cytochrome c reductase and cytochrome c oxidase. Higher concentrations of digitonin completely inhibit cytochrome c reductases, while...
