in this work, we report synthesis of superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles at room temperature using microemulsion template phase consisting of cyclohexane, water, cetyltrimethylammonium bromide ctab as cationic surfactant and butanol as a cosurfactant. silica surface modification of the as prepared nanoparticles was performed by adding tetraethoxysilane teos to alkaline medium. the struct...

nanocrystalline hydroxyapatite was precipitated from calcium hydroxide and phosphoric acid. effects of precipitation temperature and different calcium to phosphate ratios (ca/p) on the obtained powders were investigated. characteriza-tion of the powders was performed using xrd and ftir spectra, scanning electron microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy. increase in precipitation tempera...

The morphology of Pd nanostructures is a critical parameter for the control of Pd activity in these applications. Like other noble metals, the synthesis of Pd nanostructures with different morphologies has been a challenging task. Many attempts have been made to control the synthesis of Pd nanostructures using surfactants and polymers. However, the drawback of these approaches is the integratio...

ZnO nanorods decorated with gold nanoparticles of ~20 nm average size were fabricated by microwave-assisted chemical synthesis. For the surface-attached growth of metal nanoparticles, the ZnO nanostructures were first functionalized by sodium citrate and then the metal ions were reduced under microwave heating. While the incorporation of gold nanoparticles at the surface seen to quench both the...

Introduction For emissions control of multicomponent exhaust gas streams, catalytic converters have to perform three functions: the catalytic oxidation of carbon monoxide to carbon dioxide, the destruction of Volatile Organic Carbon compounds (VOC’s), and NOx abatement. State-of-art catalysts for CO oxidation are based on CuMn2O4 (hopcalite), for VOC combustion on Pt/alumina, and for DeNOx eith...

In this paper, we report on a simple, low-cost process to grow GaAs nanostructures of a few nm diameter and ∼50 nm height in Pyrex glass wafers. These nanostructures were grown by sequential plasma activation of GaAs and Pyrex glass surfaces using a low-temperature hybrid plasma bonding technology in air. Raman analyses of the activated surfaces show gallium oxide and arsenic oxide, as well as ...

It has been suggested that an important transition in the long-run trajectory of nanotechnology development is a shift from passive to active nanostructures. Such a shift could present different or increased societal impacts and require new approaches for risk assessment. An active nanostructure "changes or evolves its state during its operation," according to the National Science Foundation's ...

We report the fabrication of broadband antireflective silicon (Si) nanostructures fabricated using spin-coated silver (Ag) nanoparticles as an etch mask followed by inductively coupled plasma (ICP) etching process. This fabrication technique is a simple, fast, cost-effective, and high-throughput method, making it highly suitable for mass production. Prior to the fabrication of Si nanostructures...

Hybrid nanostructures of metal (Cu, Au, Ag)-ZnO nanopyramids were synthesized. These hybrid nanostructures possess two distinct morphologies where the metal can be selectively attached to either the base or the tip of the ZnO pyramids. This is the first time that such morphologies are reported for Cu-ZnO and Ag-ZnO hybrid nanostructures.
