A dynamic covalent crosslinking approach is used to crosslink supramolecular peptide gels. This novel approach facilitates tuning viscoelastic properties of the gel and enhances mechanical stability (storage modulus exceeding 10(5) Pa) of the peptide gels.

The thermal Huisgen cycloaddition reaction is a new and efficient process to crosslink electro-optic polymers, since it leads to an effective increase of the thermal alignment stability of the NLO chromophores.

The chaperones RAC (ribosome-associated complex), consisting of Ssz1p and zuotin, and Ssb1/2p are associated with ribosomes of yeast. Ssb1/2p was previously shown to form a crosslink product to polypeptides trapped in ribosome-nascent chain complexes (RNCs) in vitro. Here we show that an efficient crosslink of the nascent chain to Ssb1/2p depends on the presence of functional RAC. The crosslink...

Small molecules that interact with DNA, disrupting the binding of transcription factors or crosslinking DNA into larger structures, have significant potential as cancer therapies and in nanotechnology. Bisintercalators, including natural products such as echinomycin and rationally designed molecules such as the bis-9-aminoacridine-4-carboxamides, are key examples. There is little knowledge of t...

Fanconi anemia (FA) is a rare bone marrow failure disorder with defective DNA interstrand crosslink repair. Still, there are FA patients without mutations in any of the 15 genes individually underlying the disease. A candidate protein for those patients, FA nuclease 1 (FAN1), whose gene is located at chromosome 15q13.3, is recruited to stalled replication forks by binding to monoubiquitinated F...

The principal curarimimetic toxin of Naja naja siamensis derivatized with biotinyl groups binds specifically both to acetylcholine receptor, isolated from Torpedo californica electric tissue, and to avidin. Isolated complexes of receptor monomer or dimer, biotinyl-toxin, and avidin were negatively stained and examined in the scanning transmission electron microscope. We measured the angle made ...

Photo-irradiation of PBDA-modified DNA generates a long-lived intermediate that reacts selectively with Lys residues DNA-binding proteins, leading to higher crosslink yields than traditional photo-crosslinkers such as benzophenone and diazirine.

High levels of interstrand cross-link damage in mammalian cells cause chromatid breaks and radial formations recognizable by cytogenetic examination. The mechanism of radial formation observed following DNA damage has yet to be determined. Due to recent findings linking homologous recombination and non-homologous end-joining to the action of the Fanconi anemia pathway, we speculated that radial...
