The paper presents a token based distributed mutual exclusion algorithm. The algorithm assumes a fully connected, reliable physical network and a directed acyclic graph (dag) structured logical network. The number of messages required to provide mutual exclusion is dependent upon the logical topology imposed on the nodes. Using the best topology, the algorithm attains comparable performance to ...

We study the optimization of nonperturbative renormalization group equations truncated both in fields and derivatives. On the example of the Ising model in three dimensions, we show that the Principle of Minimal Sensitivity can be unambiguously implemented at order ∂ of the derivative expansion. This approach allows us to select optimized cutoff functions and to improve the accuracy of the crit...

Vulnerabilities in web applications allow hackers to access and/or modify restricted data. Here the hackers have the opportunity to perform reconnaissance so as to gain knowledge about the web application layout before launching an attack, whereas the defender (administrator of the web application) must secure the application even with its potential vulnerabilities. In order to mask such vulner...

The problem of mutual exclusion in distributed systems has attracted considerable attention over the last two decades. The mutual exclusion problem requires that, at a time, only one of the contending processes be allowed to enter its critical section (CS). A number of solutions have been provided to the mutual exclusion problem in distributed systems. Different algorithms have used different t...

Schweitzer’s book, of which this English translation is now offered to the public, contains two distinct elements. The larger part of it is a historical critique of the life-of-Jesus literature. To this is added a constructive attempt to interpret the life of Jesus on extreme eschatological lines. The constructive part is, however, of much smaller compass than the historico-critical section and...

Clustered architectures which intend to process data within a localized PE are one of the approaches to increase the performance under the difficulties of the wire delay problems. The performance of the clustered architecture depends on the implemented instruction steering scheme. Existing steering schemes insert inter-PE communications to achieve load balance among PEs. These insertions delay ...

In this paper, we consider the isoptic curves in 2-dimensional geometries of constant curvature E, H, E. The topic is widely investigated in the Euclidean plane E, see for example [1] and [15] and the references given there. In the hyperbolic and elliptic plane (according to [18]), there are few results in this topic (see [3] and [4]). In this paper, we give a review of the known results on iso...

In this paper we give a characterization of critical configurations for projective reconstruction with any number of points and views. A set of cameras and points is said to be critical if the projected image points are insufficient to determine the placement of the points and the cameras uniquely, up to a projective transformation. For two views, the critical configurations are well-known. In ...

This paper investigates the hypothesis testing of equivalence of mean of multiple systems using the range statistic. The procedure allows unequal variances among systems. Equivalence testing has many applications in screening for new product development. First, the required sample sizes for equivalence testing at a specified confidence are derived. We then develop an indifference-zone procedure...

The paper studies a general inverse eigenvalue problem which contains as special cases many well studied pole placement and matrix extension problems. It is shown that the studied problem corresponds on the geometric side to a central projection from some projective variety. The degree for this variety is computed in the critical dimension.
