Introduction Inertial effects are ubiquitous and unavoidable in stress-controlled rheometry. Many readers of this Bulletin will have seen the kind of phenomena shown in the experimental data of Figure 1. If the fluid is sufficiently viscoelastic, inertio-elastic 'ringing' events (i.e. damped oscillations) are observed in the angular displacement measured at the start of a creep test, as a resul...

A novel wood flour (WF)-filled composite based on the microfibrillar high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and Nylon-6 co-blend, in which both in situ formed Nylon-6 microfibrils and WF acted as reinforcing elements, was successfully developed using a two-step extrusion method. At the 30wt.% WF loading level, WF-filled composite based on the microfibrillized HDPE/Nylon-6 blend exhibited higher stren...

We investigate the effect of columnar defects on the low-temperature magnetic response of a highly anisotropic superconductor. Using a local magnetic field sensor, the vortex creep rate in single crystals of Tl2Ba2CuO61d containing columnar defects is found to be a highly nonmonotonic function of vortex density. The creep rate is largest when the vortex density is less than the defect density. ...

A device especially designed for uniaxial creep test was used in this study. Cheddar cheeses of different fat content were used. To study the linear viscoelastic response of the cheese, temperature of 40 degrees C and stress of 1119.5 Pa were chosen. Tests were carried out at cheese ages of 1, 3, 6, and 12 wk after production date. A six-element Kelvin model was used to model the creep data. In...

Finite element models (FEMs) and analytical and experimental models based on poroelastic constitutive laws were developed for rhesus spinal motion segments (SMSs). Long-time creep, transient creep, and impact were studied for SMSs with normal and simulated degenerated discs. The results suggested that long-time creep observed in excised SMSs may be reduced in the in vivo SMS. The fluid phase in...

These results support the earlier findings by Dr. Bill Kunkle and his research involving limitcreep supplements based on cottonseed meal and salt mixtures. Calf performance responses, as measured by the added gain realized by creep supplementation, are highly variable and cannot always be described by amounts of creep feed consumed. This variability has large and direct impacts on the cost effe...

The stress analysis of pressurized circumferential pipe weldments under steady state creep is considered. The creep response of the material is governed by Norton’s law. Numerical and analytical solutions are obtained by means of perturbation method, the unperturbed solution corresponds to the stress field in a homogeneous pipe. The correction terms are treated as stresses defined with the help...

The creep behavior of basalt fiber reinforced epoxy (BFRE) and glass fiber reinforced epoxy (GFRE) composites was studied through tensile testing at high temperature. To study the effect of reinforcing epoxy, the micro glass powder (MGP) was added at various volume percentage into the epoxy resin in BFRE composites. The initial strain for all the specimens were evaluated and compared with each ...

Abstract: The creep performance of plastics is one of the main criteria for a variety of applications with strict dimensional stability needs, including electrical/electronic parts and various automotive applications. However obtaining or generating accurate creep data is very difficult for both resin suppliers and product designers because the creep property is time dependent, which means it t...

PURPOSE To demonstrate a Scheimpflug-based imaging procedure for investigating the depth- and time-dependent strain response of the human cornea to inflation testing of whole eye globes. METHODS Six specimens, three of which with intact corneal epithelium, were mounted in a customized apparatus within a humidity and temperature-monitored wet chamber. Each specimen was subjected to two mechani...
