A total of 102 strains received as Corynebacterium 'group JK' were characterized by SDS-PAGE of their whole-cell proteins. Numerical taxonomy based on the protein pattern absorbance profiles indicated that 91 of the strains formed a cluster. Seventy strains isolated in the UK were identified as group JK, indicating the increasing detection of this group as opportunistic pathogens. Fine differen...
Corynebacterium striatum is a ubiquitous saprophyte with the potential to cause bacteremia in immunocompromised patients. Until now, spontaneous infection of a natural joint has not been reported. When phenotyping failed, gene sequencing was used to identify the species. The isolate demonstrated high-level resistance to most antibiotics.
BACKGROUND Infection due to Corynebacterium species has been reported with increasing frequency over recent decades. The impacts of enhanced laboratory detection together with widespread use of new peritoneal dialysis (PD) connection technology and antimicrobial prophylaxis strategies on Corynebacterium PD-associated peritonitis have not been well studied. METHODS We investigated the frequenc...
The complete genome sequence of the type strain Corynebacterium kutscheri DSM 20755 comprises 2,354,065 bp and 2,047 protein-coding genes. The mean G+C content of the chromosomal DNA is 46.46%, which is the lowest value detected so far in a member of the genus Corynebacterium.
Corynebacterium ulcerans infection was recently recognized as a zoonosis. We present 2 cases of severe pneumonia complicated by diffuse pseudomembrane formation on the bronchus caused by C. ulcerans-producing diphtheria toxin. Our purpose is to alert medical professionals to the virulence of Corynebacterium species other than C. diphtheriae.
Corynebacterium ulcerans may cause diphtheria in humans and caseous lymphadenitis in animals. We isolated nontoxigenic tox-bearing C. ulcerans from 13 game animals in Germany. Our results indicate a role for game animals as reservoirs for zoonotic C. ulcerans.
A strain of a species of the genus Corynebacterium, designated AJ 3170(T), was isolated during the 1980s from putrefied bananas. Since then, there have been no further updates on the description of the strain or its phylogenetic classification. However, phylogenetic analysis of this strain using 16S rRNA and in silico DNA-DNA hybridization has confirmed that it is a member of the genus Coryneba...
