We show global uniqueness of the solution to a class of constrained variational problems, using scaling properties. This is used to establish the essential uniqueness of solutions of a large deviations problem in multiple dimensions. The result is motivated by models of buffers, and in particular the probability of, and typical path to overflow in the limit of small buffers, which we analize.

We review the motivation for, the current state-of-the-art in convergence results, and some open questions concerning the stabilized version of the sequential quadratic programming algorithm for constrained optimization. We also discuss the tools required for its local convergence analysis, globalization challenges, and extentions of the method to the more general variational problems.

We present new necessary optimality conditions for εe–Pareto optimal solutions of constrained vector optimization problems with empty interior ordering cones. We use the dual-space approach based on advanced tools of variational analysis and generalized differentiation. It allows us not implement any scalarization technique while be able to establish necessary results for nonconvex and nonsolid...

This paper concerns the study of the so-called super minimizers related to the concept of super efficiency in constrained problems of multiobjective optimization, where cost mappings are generally set-valued. We derive necessary conditions for super minimizers on the base of advanced tools of variational analysis and generalized differentiation that are new in both finite-dimensional and infini...

In this paper, some properties of  pseudoinvex functions, defined by means of  limiting subdifferential, are discussed. Furthermore, the Minty vector variational-like inequality,  the Stampacchia vector variational-like inequality, and the  weak formulations of these two inequalities  defined by means of limiting subdifferential are studied. Moreover, some relationships  between the vector vari...

In this paper, we enlighten the role of variational inequalities for obtaining convergence rates in Tikhonov regularization of nonlinear ill-posed problems with convex penalty functionals under convexity constraints in Banach spaces. Variational inequalities are able to cover solution smoothness and the structure of nonlinearity in a uniform manner, not only for unconstrained but, as we indicat...

Abstract. We investigate symmetry reduction of optimal control problems for left-invariant control systems on Lie groups, with partial symmetry breaking cost functions. Our approach emphasizes the role of variational principles and considers a discrete-time setting as well as the standard continuous-time formulation. Specifically, we recast the optimal control problem as a constrained variation...

We consider the following classical autonomous variational problem minimize { F (v) = ∫ b a f(v(x), v′(x)) dx : v ∈ AC([a, b]), v(a) = α, v(b) = β } , where the Lagrangian f is possibly neither continuous, nor convex, nor coercive. We prove a monotonicity property of the minimizers stating that they satisfy the maximum principle or the minimum one. By virtue of such a property, applying recent ...

We present a new method for the solution of the box constrained variational inequality problem, BVIP for short. Basically, this method is a nonsmooth Newton method applied to a reformulation of BVIP as a system of nonsmooth equations involving the natural residual. The method is globalized by using the D-gap function. We show that the proposed algorithm is globally and fast locally convergent. ...

The computational method based on using the operational matrix of anorthogonal function for solving variational problems is computeroriented. In this approach, a truncated Hartley series together withthe operational matrix of integration and integration of the crossproduct of two cas vectors are used for finding the solution ofvariational problems. Two illustrative...
