For a space–time, the question whether two causally related points can be joined by means of a causal geodesic has a clear physical meaning. More geometrically, geodesic connectedness ~the possibility of joining any two points by a geodesic of any causal type! is a basic property. Some techniques introduced to study geodesic connectedness are appliable to related problems of physical interest, ...

Although research has shown that loneliness in adolescents leads to higher rates of depressive symptoms, the presumed protective factor of social connectedness has not been studied in conjunction with these two constructs. The aim of the present study was to determine if social connectedness would predict lower loneliness and depressive symptoms over time in a large sample of adolescents. A lar...

Despite a growing recognition of cultural connectedness as an important protective factor for First Nations (FN) peoples' health, there remains a clear need for a conceptual model that organizes, explains, and leads to an understanding of the resiliency mechanisms underlying this concept for FN youth. The current study involved the development of the Cultural Connectedness Scale (CCS) to identi...

There is limited prospective research on the relation between school connectedness (i.e., the extent to which students feel accepted, valued, respected, and included in the school) and mental health symptoms in adolescents. A sample of 2,022 students (999 boys and 1,023 girls) ages 12 to 14 years were measured at 2 time points (12 months apart) on school connectedness and mental health symptoms...

Introduction This paper discusses the concept of 'connectedness', exploring its relationship with the concepts of 'social presence' and 'awareness', and arguing that although 'social presence' and 'awareness' have received most focus in previous research, 'connectedness' is, in fact, a more fundamental concept. 'Connectedness' is potentially a key concept in the analysis of communication and th...

We study hyperbolic geodesics running from ∞ $\infty$ to a generic point, by the harmonic measure with pole at , on boundary of connectedness locus M d ${\cal M}_d$ for unicritical polynomials f c ( z ) = + $f_c(z)=z^d+c$ . It is known that parameter ∈ ∂ $c\in \partial {\cal not accessible within John angle and $\partial spirals round them infinitely many times in both directions. prove almost ...

Adopting the point-neighbourhood definition of topology, which we think may in some cases help acquire a very good insight of digital topologies, we unify the proof technique of the results on 4-connectedness and on 8-connectedness in Z . We also show that there is no topology compatible with 6-connectedness. We shortly comment on potential further use of this approach.

BACKGROUND Few studies have considered the joint effects of social and physical environments on physical activity (PA). The primary purpose of this study was to examine the compounding effects of neighbourhood walkability and social connectedness on PA. METHODS Data were collected from adults (n = 380) in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. Perceptions of neighbourhood social connectedness and walkabi...
