Herbal teas are widely consumed in Turkey. This study aimed to evaluate the antimicrobial activity of methanol, acetone, and aqueous extracts endemic Sideritis galatica plant collected from Afyonkarahisar. For this purpose, effect different concentrations (2.5%, 5%, 10%, 20%) these on L. monocytogenes, B. cereus, S. aureus, E. faecalis, coli, coli O157, typhimurium, C. albicans were investigate...

Enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli (EHEC) isolates of serotype O157:H7 are serious foodborne zoonotic pathogens and prime targets for biocontrol using bacteriophages. We report on the complete genome sequences 11 novel lytic bacteriophages, representing three viral genera, isolated from cattle in Hungary that target E. O157 strains.

Potassium tellurite was assessed for the selection of verocytotoxigenic (VT+) Escherichia coli O157. MICs were higher for VT+ E. coli O157 than for other strains of E. coli and for Aeromonas spp. MacConkey medium containing sorbitol, tellurite and cefixime (TC-SMAC) permitted the growth of VT+ E. coli O157 and Shigella sonnei but partially or completely inhibited the growth of 67% of other stra...

Escheric hia coli O157:H7 lives in the intestines of healthy cattle, and can contaminate meat during slaughtering pr actices . Detection of the low infectious dosage of bacterium requires a sensitive method. We developed polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assays to detect the gene Stx2 irrespective of the bacterial serotype. In this study, the detection limit of the PCR protocol in detecting Stx...

Escherichia coli O157:H7, a major foodborne pathogen, has been associated with numerous cases of foodborne illnesses. Rapid methods have been developed for the screening of this pathogen in foods in order to circumvent timely plate culture techniques. Unfortunately, many rapid methods are presumptive and do not claim to confirm the presence of E. coli O157:H7. The previously developed method, e...

background and objectives: the most common serotype of enterohaemorrhagic esherichia coli group or shiga-toxin-producing e. coli is o157:h7. domestic and wild ruminants are regarded as the main natural reservoirs. o157:h7 serotype is the major cause of gastrointestinal infections in developed countries. in this study was conducted to survey on the toxigenic e. coli o157: h7 strains in milk of i...

Enterohemorrhagic E. coli strains (EHEC) had emerged as foodborne pathogens and cause in human diarrhea and hemolytic-uremic syndrome. Because of the widespread distribution of EHEC serotypes and O157 and non-O157 in cattle population, its control will require interventions at the farm level such as the administration of probiotics that produce inhibitory metabolites. E. coli O157:H7 shows tiss...

Escherichia coli O157:H7 is an important food-borne pathogen and cause of hemorrhagic colitis and hemolytic uremic syndrome in humans. Cattle are an important reservoir of E. coli O157:H7, in which the organism colonizes the intestinal tract and is shed in the feces. Vaccination of cattle has significant potential as a pre-harvest intervention strategy for E. coli O157:H7; however, basic inform...
