the absence of cerebrospinal fluid (csf) pleocytosis in invasive meningococcal disease (imd) has been associated with an increased risk of death. it is unknown whether patients who lack a cellular response to central nervous system (cns) infection are at the same risk of adverse outcome as patiens without cns infection. to determine the frequency of presentation and outcome of three groups of c...

Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) analysis is an important component of the diagnostic evaluation of patients with neurologic diseases, and abnormalities in the color, cellularity, and protein level of the CSF may contribute to or confirm the diagnosis. Cerebrospinal fluid abnormalities have to be viewed in the context of the neurologic examination, historical complaints, clinical findings, advanced im...

Since cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leakage is highlighted as a cause of persistent headache, radionuclide cisternography has been increasingly performed in Japan to confirm the disorder, although the limited ability of the examination should be recognized. We present 3 cases in which failure of a tracer injection was strongly suspected. In 2 cases with chronic symptoms, the tracer appeared to be i...

Liquorpheresis (cerebrospinal fluid filtration) comprises a therapeutical approach that has been proposed to treat several neurological conditions where antibodies, inflammatory mediators, or abnormal peptides are the cause or play an important role in the pathogenesis of the disease. Continuous or intermittent cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) replacement may be an alternative approach not explored th...

The penetration of ofloxacin was studied in 22 patients with purulent meningitis or ventriculitis treated with conventional antibiotics. Three successive doses of 200 mg were infused at 12-h intervals during the acute stage of the disease. Ten patients received three additional doses when the meninges were considered to be healed. Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) was drawn 0.5, 3, 6, or 12 h after the...

Background and Aims: The aim of the present study was to re-evaluate the upper limit of normal range (ULN) for adenosine deaminase (ADA) level in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of healthy subjects in Indian population. Materials and Methods: Posteriori strategy was used for reference population selection. Individuals whose CSF samples had come to the laboratory of Bhatia Hospital, Mumbai (India) ...

A rapid, simple and reproducible HPLC method was developed and validated for the analysis of nimodipine (NM) and/or its metabolite, oxidized nimodipine (OX–NM) in rat cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and artificial CSF. The NM and OX–NM were eluted in less than 10 min with no interferences from the endogenous CSF peaks. Analysis was carried out on a Eurospher Performance (RP-C18, 250 × 4.6 mm) column ...

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is has great potential as a tool for diagnosis of neurological diseases such as Chiari malformation (CM) and syringomyelia (SM). Its extended capability to obtain in-vivo velocities of blood or cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) allowed engineers to perform studies with engineering analysis applications such as computational fluid dynamics and physical modeling. Recently...

We report a case of diffuse enhancement of the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) after intravenous administration of gadopentetate dimeglumine in an 8-year-old girl with a primitive neuroectodermal tumor. The enhancement of the CSF was caused by leakage of gadolinium chelate complexes into the CSF, which was proved by CSF analysis.

In vertebrates, early brain development takes place at the expanded anterior end of the neural tube. After closure of the anterior neuropore, the brain wall forms a physiologically sealed cavity that encloses embryonic cerebrospinal fluid (E-CSF), a complex and protein-rich fluid that is initially composed of trapped amniotic fluid. E-CSF has several crucial roles in brain anlagen development. ...
