A new water-soluble thermoresponsive pillar[6]arene with triethylene oxide groups was synthesized. The pillar[6]arene showed lower critical solution temperature behavior in aqueous solution. Its clouding point was photoreversibly switched based on a photoresponsive host-guest system. The trans form of an azobenzene guest formed a stable 1:1 complex with the pillar[6]arene. Complexation increase...

The industrially important coupling of aromatic compounds has generally required differential prefunctionalization of the arene coupling partners with a halide and an electropositive group. Here we report that palladium, in conjunction with a copper oxidant, can catalyze the cross-coupling of N-acetylindoles and benzenes in high yield and high regioselectivity across a range of indoles without ...

The photochemistry of several photochromic arene [e]-annelated dimethyldihydropyrenes (DHPs) was studied. These compounds have much larger photochemical ring opening quantum yields than the simple DHPs, making them potentially more useful as building blocks for photoswitchable materials.

Anticancer drugs A series of monoand dinuclear (η-arene) ruthenium(II) complexes were prepared by reaction of thiosemicarbazone ligands derived from benzaldehyde and ruthenium(II) precursors of the general formula [Ru(η-arene)(μ-Cl)Cl]2, where arene=p-PrC6H4Me or C6H5C3H6COOH. These complexes were characterized by NMR and IR spectroscopy, ESI-mass spectrometry and elemental analysis. The molecu...

In the title compound, C(23)H(8)F(10)O(2), the three arene rings are twisted one with respect to the other: the two perfluorinated arene rings are tilted to each other by an angle of 60.39 (7)°. They are inclined to the non-fluorinated phenyl unit by 38.85 (7) and 78.74 (7)°. The olefinic double bond adopts an E configuration. The carbonyl groups are not in a coplanar alignment with reference t...

The unexpected interaction between thiazole orange (TO) and calix[4]arene sulfonate is reported herein. H-Aggregates of TO switching on their fluorescence in solution are observed. Surprisingly, fluorescence enhancement is not linked to host-guest inclusion, but rather to calix[4]arene sulfonate serving as a template for several TO molecules.

The title compound, C(20)H(26)O(4), crystallizes such that the alkyl chain adopts an all-anti conformation. The crystal packing displays edge-to-face arene-arene inter-actions with a dihedral angle of 87°. The complete molecule is generated by inversion symmetry.

Catalytic transfer dehydrogenation of silyl protected amines, requiring sp(3) C-H bond activation, is mediated by a bridging arene complex of the type [(Cp*Co)(2)-μ-(η(4):η(4)-arene)] under mild conditions. Mechanistic and qualitative rate studies establish the compound as a more reactive Co(I) source when compared to other known Cp*Co(I) complexes.

A new, versatile and direct Pd-mediated method involving intramolecular cyclization of N-(2-iodoaryl)-N-(1-alkyl-1H-indol-2-yl)alkane/arene/heteroarene sulfonamide has been developed leading to a diverse and unique class of indolo[2,3-b]indoles for the potential inhibition of sirtuins.
