Bone sialoprotein (BSP) is a multifunctional extracellular matrix protein found in mineralized tissues, including bone, cartilage, tooth root cementum (both acellular and cellular types), and dentin. In order to define the role BSP plays in the process of biomineralization of these tissues, we analyzed cementogenesis, dentinogenesis, and osteogenesis (intramembranous and endochondral) in cranio...

Binary Space Partition (BSP) tree and Constructive Solid Geometry (CSG) tree representations are both set-theoretic binary tree representations of solid objects used in solid modeling and computer graphics. Recently, an extension of the traditional BSP tree definition has been presented, in which surfaces used in the binary partition include curved surfaces in addition to planar surfaces. We ex...

Increased bone sialoprotein (BSP) serum levels are related to breast cancer skeletal metastasis, but their relevance is unknown. We elucidated novel intracellular BSP functions by a conditional knockdown of BSP. Conditional MDA-MB-231 subclones were equipped with a novel gene expression cassette containing a tet-reg-ulated miRNA providing knockdown of BSP production. These clones were used to a...

Sperm capacitation is a maturation event that takes place in the female reproductive tract and is essential for fertilization. A family of phospholipid-binding proteins present in bovine seminal plasma (BSP proteins) binds the sperm membrane at ejaculation and promotes bovine sperm capacitation. Homologues of these proteins have also been isolated from boar, ram, goat, bison and stallion semina...

Introduction Death from cancer is usually due to the development of metastases, and the skeleton is the organ most frequently involved. Clinically, skeletal metastases are a frequently encountered event. The patient develops pain, pathologic fractures, hypercalcemia, and spinal cord compression and experiences an inexorable decline in mobility and quality of life. Recent reports have demonstrat...

Tissue regeneration strategies invoke cell-based therapies for effective tissue formation. Current assessment of mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) directed bone regeneration during in vivo assays is dependent on histologic determination of bone formation. It was the aim of this study to determine the relationship between bone sialoprotein (BSP) expression and osteocalcin expression with subsequent os...

The interaction between the GGCC-specific Bsp RI DNA methyltransferase (M. Bsp RI) and substrate DNA was studied with footprinting techniques using a DNA fragment that was unmodified on both strands. Footprinting with DNase I revealed an approximately 14 bp protected region. Footprinting with dimethylsulfate detected major groove interactions with the guanine bases of the recognition sequence. ...

Bone sialoprotein (BSP) is a major non-collagenous protein in mineralized tissues. BSP is also implied to be involved in tumor metastasis through its unique structure. Using the human breast cancer cell line MDA-231, we established both brain-seeking and bone-seeking cell clones. The brain-seeking cells (MDA4-231BR) showed no bone metastasis in an animal model. In this experiment, MDA-231BR cel...

In this paper an acceleration method for finding the nearest ray–object intersection for ray tracing purposes is presented. We use the concept of BSP trees enriched by rope trees. These are used to accelerate the traversal of the BSP tree. We give a comparison of experimental results between the technique based on BSP tree and uniform spatial subdivision.

objective: runt-related transcription factor 2 (runx2) and osterix (osx) as two specific osteoblast transcription factors and distal-less homeobox 5 (dlx5) as a non-specific one are of paramount importance in regulating osteoblast related genes including osteocalcin, bone sialoprotein (bsp), osteopontin and collagen type iα1. the present study sets out to investigate whether epigenetic regulati...
