The availability of mathematical knowledge on the Web changes mathematical practices. In a study of professional mathematicians’ search behavior we identified ten behavioral patterns particular to mathematicians. In this paper, we present a set of design goals for mathematical search interfaces implied by these patterns and insights derived from them.

The rapid development of complex virtual worlds (most notably, in 3D computer and video games) introduces new challenges for the creation of virtual agents, controlled by artificial intelligence (AI) systems. Two important subproblems in this topic area which need to be addressed are (a) believability and (b) effectiveness of agents’ behavior, i.e. human-likeness of the characters and high abil...

Three studies are presented that compare decisions from experience in Denmark, Israel, and Taiwan. They focus on two change-related cultural differences suggested by previous research on dialectical vs. analytic approach to thinking. The first implies that East Asians are more likely to change their behavior over time (i.e., are less consistent), the second that they expect more changes in the ...

We address the publication of a large academic information dataset while ensuring privacy. We evaluate anonymization techniques achieving the intended protection, while retaining the utility of the anonymized data. The published data can help to infer behaviors and study interaction patterns in an academic population. These could subsequently be used to improve the planning of campus life, such...

This study investigated work-rated stressors in software developers aimed at determining a metric model to help predict and control stress levels. To this end, 10 semi-structured interviews were conducted with software engineers and data were analyzed using Grounded Theory techniques. The results of this work show the main work stressors in our informants. In addition, in this work, we present ...
