Rabies is a uniformly fatal disease. It is preventable if World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines for post exposure treatment (PET) are followed. Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS) is an acquired disease of the peripheral nervous system which causes demyelination and leads to weakness, ataxia, and areflexia. There are a variety of forms of the syndrome, and although it is found in all age groups, it is rare in children less than two years of age. The present complaint of weakness, ataxia, or lower extremity pain in the pediatric population sh...

Varicella-zoster virus (VZV) infection has not often been related to the development of Guillain Barre Syndrome (GBS). However, the close temporal relationship noted between varicella infection and the onset of GBS suggests the participation of VZV in the etiopathogenesis of GBS. Very few cases have been reported showing this relationship. This report describes 2 cases highly suggestive of this...

The following report describes two patients with polyradiculoneuropathy of unknown aetiology and displaying degeneration of the spinal cord secondary to severe and long-standing damage to the spinal nerve roots. neurological signs and symptoms are commonly associated with both hodgkin’s and non-hodgkin’s lymphoma and are mostly attributed to either direct lymphomatous involvement of the nervous system, either as a result of extension to the spinal cord or nerves, or due to infiltration by lymphoma cells and drug toxicity. guillain-barre syndrome and its variants have been reported very infrequently in ...

Central or peripheral demyelinating disorders including neuromyelitis optica, isolated optic neuritis or myelitis, and Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS) in patients with tuberculosis have been well documented in the literature. , 2 It has been suggested that they are most likely due to an immune reaction to tuberculosis rather than due to direct invasion of tuberculosis or the adverse effect of ant...

Guillain Barre Syndrome (GBS) is readily diagnosed when the presentation is that of ascending weakness and areflexia. Atypical presentations with preserved, and at times, brisk reflexes, can be a diagnostic dilemma. We describe a patient with GBS who presented with facial diplegia and hyperreflexia on examination and discuss management options.

We report a case of early-onset acute Guillain-Barre syndrome associated with reactivation of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection after nonmyeloablative stem cell transplantation (NST). Reactivation of EBV infection preceded disease onset, and the virus load increased concomitantly with disease progression (doubling time, 2.7 days). This case raises concern about the expanding scope of manifesta...
