Although the pathogenesis of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is unclear, genetic screening has revealed that polymorphisms in the complement system may be associated with AMD development. Production of autoantibodies was also found in AMD patients. In this study, we analyzed the antibody response in AMD patients. We found that purified B cells from AMD patients tended to respond to lower...

After an initial febrile viral syndrome, infection with Ebola virus often induces an explosive late "Ebola sepsis-like syndrome" which appears very similar to some phenotypes of bacterial sepsis and is commonly fatal. It is possible that direct and diffuse viral infection of both the endothelium and epithelium of the colon may cause sufficient disruption of both the endothelial and epithelial b...

A whole-bacterial cell enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (bactELISA) was developed for detecting fimbrial antigens on Streptococcus sanguis. In this assay, S. sanguis cells were directly adhered to polystyrene or polyvinyl via drying. Use of the assay indicated that consistently high and uniform optical densities could be obtained from well to well. In addition, radioactive assaying indicated i...

Bacterial fish pathogens cause significant losses in rainbow trout farms. In farms, bacterial threatening diseases which has made it necessary to develop rapid methods for disease diagnosis. Serological techniques are applied with a small amount of antiserum and sample, preferred the diagnosis diseases. this study, formalin-killed antigens prepared from reference strains Lactococcus garvieae, Y...

Abstract Streptococcus pyogenesis a significant cause of infectious morbidity and mortality globally. Antibiotics remain the essential treatment for S. pyogenesinfection however, as resistance against long-used antibiotics grows amongst bacterial pathogens antibiotic failure becomes increasingly common in pyogenestreatment, necessity alternative methods escalates. Here, we have selected conserv...

Bacterial ghosts are intact walls of bacterial cells that relieved their contents through pores formed by mild biological or chemical methods. Methodology for generating increases the safety killed vaccines while maintaining antigenicity milder preparation procedures. Moreover, can simultaneously carry several antigens plasmid DNAs encoding protein epitopes. In recent years, there has been a gr...

Enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli O157:H7 has a natural reservoir in the intestinal tracts of cattle. Colonization is asymptomatic and transient, but it is not clear if protective immunity is induced. This study demonstrates that prior colonization induces humoral immune responses to bacterial antigens and reduces bacterial shedding after experimental challenge with the homologous strain.

Immunoassays analyzing interactions between antigens and antibodies can be affected by capillary action together with binding affinity. This paper studies contact-angle changes of bacterial suspensions on antibody immobilized surfaces. The capillary action and the dried pattern of the bacterial suspensions are analyzed and correlated with specific- and nonspecific bindings between bacteria and ...

The use of defined protein and peptide antigens can overcome specificity limitations of purified protein derivatives in the detection of bovine tuberculosis when the antigens are used in blood-based tests. Since the use of these specific antigens as skin test reagents could have practical advantages, we investigated the potential of Mycobacterium bovis-specific antigens to stimulate delayed-typ...

Kunin, Calvin M. (University of Virginia, Charlottesville) and Mary V. Beard. Serological studies of O antigens of Escherichia coli by means of the hemagglutination test. J. Bacteriol. 85:541-548. 1963.-The serological interrelationships among most of the known O antigens of Escherichia coli were studied by the hemagglutination test. Good agreement with the bacterial agglutination test was foun...
