This paper uses an orthotropic shell model to investigate in detail the long axial wavelength circumferential vibration of microtubules (MTs). The deformation patterns in the vibrations were explored and their phonon dispersion relations were presented for MTs with increasing radius. It was shown that with the growth of the axial wavelength, the associated frequency of MTs would finally approac...

We consider the displacement of an elastic material under an external compression (axial or almost axial stress). We assume that only one component of the displacement is observed, in the direction of compression (axial displacement), or alternatively, that two components are observed in a plane. These hypotheses are in accordance with an imaging modality, namely ultrasonic elastography. In the...

Accelerometers have been widely deployed in public health studies in recent years. While they collect high-resolution acceleration signals (e.g., 10-100 Hz), research has mainly focused on summarized metrics provided by accelerometers manufactures, such as the activity count (AC) by ActiGraph or Actical. Such measures do not have a publicly available formula, lack a straightforward interpretati...

This paper proposes a high accuracy classifier for human activity based on data collected with a single tri-axial accelerometer mounted on the right part of the hip. The accuracy of this classifier is very important for detecting the postures. Therefore we use methods like acceleration magnitude and neural network and compare them to find the best solution.
