PURPOSE The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of particle size of autogenous bone grafts on the early stages of bone regeneration. MATERIALS AND METHODS Bicortical skull bone defects were prepared in 15 rabbits (4 in each rabbit). Two defects were filled at random with either small (0.5 to 2 mm3) or large (10 mm3) autogenous bone particles. In addition, 1 defect was left unfi...

Soft tissue augmentation with autogenous grafts is widely used in various disciplines of dentistry. Indicated in partially and fully edentulous patients to augment areas with reduced width of keratinized gingiva, as well as to increase soft tissue volume. The following case report describes an unusual presentation of preprosthetic surgery, where ridge reconstruction was done using a free gingiv...

We evaluated the use of hydroxyapatite blocks as spacers in pelvic osteotomy. The hydroxyapatite blocks fused with autologous bone tissue within 10 months and were highly biocompatible even after 10 years. They prevent pelvic deformities and are as effective as autogenous bone grafts.

In the present study, 40 rabbits were used. 30 of them for the experiment and 10 as controls. Jhl1 layer defects of 7-14 mm which were produced on knee joint cartilage were repaired wtth free autogenous periosteal and fbscial grafts. The defects were made on the weight bearing areas of the medial condyles of the fernurs of rabbits. The fu11 layer periosteal grafts which were taken from the uppe...

Regenerative medicine provides different therapy alternatives alongside gold standard autogenous grafts for the treatment of periodontal or peri-implant osseous defects. Continuing progress in the field of alloplastic bone substitutes has yielded promising solutions to the appropriate indications with the membrane technique either alone or in combination with enamel matrix derivatives. Their cl...

A case of unusual bone regeneration after resection of a juvenile ossifying fibroma (JOF) is presented. Secondary mandibular reconstruction with autogenous grafts was delayed due to the rapid bone formation. To the best of our knowledge there are no reports of this unusual response following JOF resection.

OBJECTIVE We report the long-term clinical outcomes of patients who underwent autogenous bone grafting of large-volume osteochondral defects of the knee due to osteochondritis dessicans (OCD) and osteonecrosis (ON). This is the companion report to one previous published on the biological response. We hypothesized that these grafts would integrate with host bone and the articular surface would f...

In this study, a new approach involving placement and subsequent retrieval of titanium microimplants was employed for the histologic investigation of the implant-tissue interface in conjunction with maxillary sinus floor augmentation. Nine patients scheduled for sinus floor augmentation and simultaneous placement of Brånemark implants were included in the study. After a sinus graft procedure an...
