BACKGROUND Presence of epinephrine in local anesthetic cartridge increases the duration of local anesthesia (LA), decreases the risk of toxicity, and provides hemostasis. However, the unfavorable effects are increasing heart rate (HR) and raising blood pressure (BP). The aim was to evaluate hemodynamic changes in the BP, HR, and oxygen saturation (SpO2) of normal patients undergoing tooth extra...
OBJECTIVE To compare single buccal articaine injection versus conventional lignocaine buccal and palatal injections for uncomplicated maxillary tooth extractions. STUDY DESIGN Single blinded randomized control trial. PLACE AND DURATION OF STUDY The outpatient department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Armed Forces Institute of Dentistry, Rawalpindi, from February to September 2011. MET...
OBJECTIVES Was to evaluate the effect of different regional anesthetics (articaine with epinephrine versus prilocaine with felypressin) on stress in the extraction of impacted lower third molars in healthy subjects. STUDY DESIGN [corrected] A prospective single-blind, split-mouth cross-over randomized study was designed, with a control group. The experimental group consisted of 24 otherwise h...
Using semiempirical PM3 method, a comparative quantum chemical estimation has been carried out of the energy of articaine adsorption on the surfaces of the following composite materials: silica-anaesthetic, polymer-anaesthetic, and silica-polymer-anaesthetic. It has been found that adsorption on silica surface takes place due to electrostatic and nonspecific interactions. The data of quantum ch...
We present a 54-year-old woman who suffered eczematous eruptions on her face after the administration of lidocaine and mepivacaine for dental surgeries. Patch tests showed delayed-type-hypersensitivity to the amide local anesthetics lidocaine and mepivacaine with cross reaction to other amynoacylderivatives (prilocaine, bupivacaine) but not articaine.
Background: Articaine is an amide local anaesthetic, which is gaining popularity for use in dental and oral surgical anaesthesia in the United Kingdom. Hitherto there has been insufficient evidence to recommend articaine above the more commonly used lidocaine for dental procedures. The aim of this study is to compare the efficacy of 4% articaine with 1:100,000 adrenaline (4AA) with that of 2% l...
