We have developed a menu-selection-based Japanese input method for a pen device. To obtain user-input kanji-form text rapidly, the system requires sequence of consonant. Following this, the user selects kanji-form candidates inferred by the system. In some situations, consonant sequences can trigger an explosion of kanji-form candidates. Therefore, we have implemented a method for reducing cand...

This paper studies the effect of fixing the length of the selected feature subsets on the performance of ant colony optimization (ACO) for feature selection (FS) for supervised learning. It addresses this concern by investigating: (1) determining the optimal feature subset from datamining perspective, (2) demonstrating the solution convergence in case of fixing the length of the selected featur...

Malaysia has undergone tremendous social change in the past two decades and is indeed changing rapidly today. Aside from the changes in the physical appearance of its cities and countryside some for the better and some for the worse, there has occurred also phenomenal change of a social nature in Malaysian society. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the large numbers of people who today floc...

In this paper we describe a real-time speech-driven method for synthesising realistic video sequences of a subject enunciating arbitrary phrases. In an offline training phase an active appearance model (AAM) is constructed from hand-labelled images and is used to encode the face of a subject reciting a few training sentences. Canonical correlation analysis (CCA) coupled with linear regression i...

Social identity, including identification with one's ethnic group, is an important aspect of social development. However, little is known about the subjective meaning associated with social group memberships, particularly during middle childhood. Using second- and fourth-graders responses to an open-ended question, we explored the meaning of ethnic identity with a sample of Chinese, Dominican, ...

In this paper, a method based on Active Appearance Models (AAM) is applied for automatic registration of myocardial perfusion MRI. A semi-quantitative perfusion assessment of the registered image sequences is presented. This includes the formation of perfusion maps for three parameters; maximum up-slope, peak and time-to-peak.

The fixing number of a graph G is the smallest cardinality of a set of vertices S such that only the trivial automorphism of G fixes every vertex in S. The fixing set of a group Γ is the set of all fixing numbers of finite graphs with automorphism group Γ. Several authors have studied the distinguishing number of a graph, the smallest number of labels needed to label G so that the automorphism ...

Plant growth-promoting bacteria –PGPB– are microorganisms that can grow in, on, or around plant tissues and stimulate plant growth by numerous mechanisms (Vessey 2003). Within this group, nitrogen-fixing bacteria play a remarkable role in plant nutritition. They can take N2 from atmosphere and make it available for plant uptake (Halbleib and Ludden 2000). Azotobacter, a nitrogen-fixing bacteria...

Two new diazotrophic bacteria, Listonella anguillarum and Vibrio campbellii, and one nonnitrogen-fixing bacterium, Staphylococcus sp., were isolated from the rhizosphere of mangrove trees. Strains of these newly-defined diazotrophs are known as pathogenic bacteria in fish and shellfish. During the purification of diazotrophic species from the entire rhizosphere population, N2 -fixation of the b...
