Adsorption kinetics and equilibrium studies of sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate (NaDBS) on cellulosic surface are investigated. Modifications in adsorption induced by cationic surfactant cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) are studied. It is concluded that the rate of adsorption and the amount of adsorption are increased. Importance of these observations in detergency is indicated.

Porous substrates have gained widespread interest for biosensor applications based on molecular recognition. Thus, there is a great demand to systematically investigate the parameters that limit the transport of molecules toward and within the porous matrix as a function of pore geometry. Finite element simulations (FES) and time-resolved optical waveguide spectroscopy (OWS) experiments were us...

The prepared magnetic-modified Fe3 O4 nanoparticles (Fe3 O4 -TAN) were used as adsorbent for removal of crystal violet (CV) from water solution. The effects of pH, contact time, dye concentration and temperature on adsorption were determined. The experimental data were analyzed using the Langmuir adsorption model. The data fitted well to the model with maximum adsorption capacities 84.0 mg/gund...

The contribution of variable grain sizes to uranium adsorption/desorption was studied using a sediment from the US DOE Hanford site. The sediment was wet sieved into four size fractions: coarse sand (1-2 mm), medium sand (0.2-1 mm), fine sand (0.053-0.2 mm), and clay/silt fraction (<0.053 mm). For each size fraction and their composite (sediment), batch and flow-cell experiments were performed ...

Introduction: Chromium is among the important heavy metals which is found in most industrial wastes and is associated with both health and environmental risks. Therefore, this study tries to analyze the efficiency of lemna and azolla powders in removing hexavalent chromium from aqueous solutions. Methods: As an experimental trial, this study was conducted experimentally in the lab scale. Initia...

A systematic study on the influence of functionality on adsorption of benzoate and phthalate at -alumina–water interface was investigated. Kinetics of adsorption of benzoate and phthalate on -alumina surfaces were performed at constant ionic strength, I= 5× 10−4 mol dm−3 and pH 5 at 25, 30 and 40 ◦C. Kinetics results show that the rate of adsorption of phthalate is ≈2 times more than that of be...

The adsorption potential of clay and sandy soil to remove benzene from liquid-phase system was examined. A series of batch adsorption tests were carried out for various concentrations of benzene (50 250 mg/l) in tightly corked 1000 ml flasks for clay and sandy soil, respectively. Equilibrium and kinetics data were obtained from the batch experiments. Adsorption increased with increasing initial...

Emulsions are metastable dispersions. Their lifetimes are directly related to the dynamics of surfactants. We design a microfluidic method to measure the kinetics of adsorption of surfactants to the droplet interface, a key process involved in foaming, emulsification, and droplet coarsening. The method is based on the pH decay in the droplet as a direct measurement of the adsorption of a carbox...

The current study both synthesizes and uses four compounds of graphene oxide (GO), nitrogen doped graphene oxide (ND-GO), high nitrogen doped graphene oxide (HND-GO), and three dimensional high nitrogen doped graphene oxide (3D-HND-GO) in order to remove a model anionic dye, Congo red (CR) from wastewaters. It also compares their carbon nano-structure, with regard to removal efficiency and find...

Background and purpose: This study was conducted for the first time to produce activated carbon (AC) from Milkvetch wood by physical activation in order to achieve the maximum adsorbent capacity in adsorption of dye. The aim of this study was to remove acid orange 7 (AO7) dye using AC produced by physical activation with nitrogen gas. Materials and methods: AC activation was performed by physi...
