BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Indications for acromioplasty are based on clinical symptoms and are generally supported by typical changes in acromial morphology on standard radiographs. We evaluated 5 commonly used radiographic parameters of acromial morphology and assessed the association between different radiographic characteristics on the one hand and subacromial impingement or rotator cuff tears ...

background many different surgical techniques have been described to stabilize the acromion-clavicular (ac) dislocations. so far many of these procedures are performed only in arthroscopy. objectives in this study, we describe a new technique that utilizes the tightrope with a mini-invasive open approach for the acute stabilization of the acromion-clavicular joint (acj) dislocation. patients an...

Acromioclavicular (AC) joint arthropathy remains one of the most common causes of shoulder pain. In the case of AC joint arthropathy resistant to conservative treatment, most authors have recognized distal clavicle resection as the gold-standard treatment. However, some challenges remain to be solved. One is the difficulty in visualization of the superior and posterior part of the distal clavic...

In order to determine whether adhesion of the subacromial bursa leads to impingement, we measured the subacromial contact pressures before and after release of adhesion of this bursa. 18 shoulders with cuff tears and adhesion of the subacromial bursa were evaluated in 8 male and 10 female patients, of mean age 62 (53-71) years and who had no particular limitation of shoulder motion. We recorded...

Non-invasive dynamical measurements of 3D scapular motion can be performed easily by attachment of a 6 DOF electromagnetic receiver onto the skin above the acromion. To quantify the introduction of possible errors due to skin displacement, we assessed 3D scapular positions on n=8 subjects by both tripod and skin-fixed method. Error analysis included the variables method (tripod, skin-fixed simu...

We examined 200 scapular bones for signs of degenerative changes in the coraco-acromial arch. The slope and length of the acromion and the height of the arch were found to be most closely associated with degenerative change. These anatomical features are not significantly altered by current techniques of subacromial decompression.

The measurement of dynamic scapular kinematics is complex due to the sliding nature of the scapula beneath the skin surface. The aim of the study was to clearly describe the acromion marker cluster (AMC) method of determining scapular kinematics when using a passive marker motion capture system, with consideration for the sources of error which could affect the validity and reliability of measu...

Background Recently, the 3-dimensional (3D) morphology of coracoacromial complex in nonpathologic shoulders has been described. The aim this study was to evaluate and compare pathologic (glenohumeral osteoarthritis [GHOA] cuff tear arthropathy [CTA]) shoulders. Methods A 3D computed tomography reconstruction 205 scapulae performed (49 with GHOA, 48 CTA, 108 normal [NL]). Subsequently, center gl...
