To investigate the presence and structure of AbaR-type genomic islands (GIs) in non-Acinetobacter baumannii isolates, a total of 155 non-baumannii Acinetobacter isolates from a South Korean hospital were analyzed. GIs were found in three Acinetobacter nosocomialis and two Acinetobacter seifertii isolates. Their structures were similar to those in A. baumannii isolates from Asian countries, incl...

Acinetobacter baumannii is an emerging Gram-negative pathogen responsible for health care-associated infections. In this study, we determined the genome of a motility-positive clinical strain, B8342, isolated from a hospital in southern India. The B8342 genome, which is 3.94 Mbp, was generated by de novo assembly of PacBio long-read sequencing data.

We report the 4.0-Mb draft genome sequence of Acinetobacter baumannii strain MSP4-16, isolated from a mangrove soil sample from Parangipettai (11°30'N, 79°47'E), Tamil Nadu, India. The draft genome sequence of strain MSP4-16 consists of 3,944,542 bp, with a G+C content of 39%, 5,387 protein coding genes, and 69 RNAs.

Background: Ventilator Associated Pneumonia (VAP), developing in mechanically ventilated patients after 48 hours of mechanical ventilation, is the second most common nosocomial infection. Therefore, there is a vital need to study the etiology and risk factors associated with VAP in neonates. Methods: Neonates admitted to neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), over a period of one year and who requ...

Acinetobacter baumannii is an emerging multidrug-resistant nosocomial pathogen. Bacteriophages may be useful as an alternative method of treatment against this and other multidrug-resistant bacteria. Here, we present the complete genome sequence of A. baumannii phage Presley, an N4-like podophage.

BACKGROUND Acinetobacter species such as Acinetobacter baumanii are of increasing concern in association with ventilator associated pneumonia (VAP). In the ICU, Acinetobacter infections are known to be subject to seasonal variation but the extent of geographic variation is unclear. The objective here is to define the extent and possible reasons for geographic variation for Acinetobacter associa...

We report here the 4.1-Mb draft genome sequence of Acinetobacter baumannii strain 5021_13, a cerebrospinal fluid isolate from northern India. This genome information will help studies toward understanding the epidemiology and pathogenicity of this important nosocomial pathogen.

This study aimed to explore the diversity of river water Acinetobacter populations using culture-dependent and -independent methods. Pyrosequencing indicated that 1.5% of the total sequences from Qiandeng River water were classified as Acinetobacter. Twelve Acinetobacter strains were isolated from three different sampling sites of the Qiandeng River. Based on culture-dependent methods, A. johns...

Options for treatment of multidrug-resistant (MDR) Acinetobacter baumannii infections are extremely limited. Minocycline intravenous is active against many MDR strains of Acinetobacter, and Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute breakpoints exist to guide interpretation of minocycline susceptibility results with Acinetobacter. In addition, minocycline intravenous holds a US Food and Drug A...

Acinetobacter species represent an important cause of nosocomial infections, producing urinary tract infections, pneumonia, endocarditis, wound infections, septicemia, meningitis. Acinetobacter were more frequent implicated in wounds infections (50.9%) and respiratory infections (20.4%). The infections prevalence was bigger in the Orthopedy (19.4%), Intensive Care Unit (18.5%) and Plastic Surge...
