We report a case of Acetobacter indonesiensis pneumonia in a 51-year-old woman after bilateral lung transplantation. We found 2 other A. indonesiensis pneumonia cases reported in the literature. All 3 cases involved complex patients exposed to broad-spectrum antimicrobial drugs, suggesting that this pathogen may be opportunistic and highly drug-resistant.
The nucleotide sequence of the Acetobacter xylinum uridine diphosphoglucose pyrophosphorylase gene was determined; this is the first procaryotic uridine diphosphoglucose pyrophosphorylase gene sequence reported. The sequence data indicated that the gene product consists of 284 amino acids. This finding was consistent with the results obtained by expression analysis in vivo and in vitro in Esche...
This report provides X-ray diffraction and Raman spectral evidence that, when 2,6-dichlorobenzonitrile is present in the culture medium, Acetobacter xylinum, which is a model system for investigation of the biosynthesis of native cellulose, produces cellulose II, as well as cellulose I. The significance of the observations with respect to the mechanism of biosynthesis of cellulose is discussed ...
Acetobacter xylinum sllbsp. sucrojlermentans BPR2001, a cellulose-producing bacterillm, that was newly isolated from a natural source, prodllced large amounts of the water-soluble po]ysaccharide, acetan. UDP-glucose is known to be the direct precllrsor in the synthetic pathways of both cellulose and acetan. We attempted to breed mutant strains and succeeded in obtalning olle, BPR3001A, which pr...
Vinegar or sour wine is a product of alcoholic and subsequent acetous fermentation of sugary precursors derived from several fruits or starchy substrates. This delicious food additive and supplement contains not less than 4 grams of acetic acid in 100 cubic centimeters at 20°C. Among the large number of bacteria that are able to produce acetic acid, only few genera are used in vinegar industry ...
The present article reports the draft genome sequence of the strain Acetobacter malorum CECT 7742, an acetic acid bacterium isolated from strawberry vinegar. This species is characterized by the production of d-gluconic acid from d-glucose, which it further metabolizes to keto-d-gluconic acids.
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Acetic acid bacteria (AAB) are useful in industrial production of vinegar. The present study aims at isolation and identification of acetic acid bacteria with characterization, optimization, and evaluation of their acetic acid productivity. MATERIALS AND METHODS Samples from various fruits were screened for presence of acetic acid bacteria on glucose, yeast extract, ...
