oral malignant melanoma (omm) accounts for 5% of all oral malignancies. it is a rare aggressive neoplasm usually found on the hard palate and gingiva. the etiology is unknown, but tobacco and chronic irritation are suggested as probable causative factors. over 30% of the cases have been reported to arise from pre-existing pigmented lesions. a biopsy is required to establish the diagnosis and th...

We report a Silicon nano-opto-mechanical device in which a nanomechanical doubly-clamped beam resonator is integrated to an optical microdisk cavity. Small flexural oscillations of the beam cause intensity modulations in the circulating optical field in the nearby microdisk cavity. By monitoring the corresponding fluctuations in the cavity transmission via a fiber-taper, one can detect these os...

This proposal is aimed at understanding the strategies that are used to control articulators during speech and at clarifying the relationships between phonological features and articulatory motions. This experimental project involves the collection and analysis of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and acoustic speech data, combined with numerical modelling of articulatory motions. Movements of t...

Cavity optomechanical systems with an enhanced coupling between mechanical motion and electromagnetic radiation have permitted the investigation of many novel physical effects. The optomechanical coupling in the majority of these systems is of dispersive nature: the cavity resonance frequency is modulated by the vibrations of the mechanical oscillator. Dissipative optomechanical interaction, wh...

Globular proteins contain cavities/voids that play specific roles in controlling protein function. Elongated cavities provide migration channels for the transport of ions and small molecules to the active center of a protein or enzyme. Using Monte Carlo and Molecular Dynamics on fully atomistic protein/water models, a new computational methodology is introduced that takes into account the prote...

Fire is an important agent of tree cavity creation and loss in some forest ecosystems. Even though cavity-bearing trees may be replaced over decades post fire, cavity-nesting animals depend on uninterrupted access to suitable nesting sites. Balancing the impacts fire availability recruitment cavities for wildlife important. We studied effects with nests Critically Endangered Orange-bellied Parr...

We present in this paper an analysis of the damage imposed by atom field state inside a lossy superconducting cavity. To access such effects, we propose two procedures to preserve qubit from decay effects imperfect quantum memory: first means quasi-instantaneous phase kick applied and second controlled resonant dispersive interactions. immediately demonstrate that, both procedures, dwell time c...

introdouction: the mapping of ghost images of the maxilla and the nasal cavity, which are complex structures, is very important. the position of objects that create a ghost image can differ when using various devices. the purpose of this investigation was to study the mapping of ghost images of the maxilla and the nasal cavity using a cranex d digital panoramic machine. materials and methods: t...
