actively expressed in circulating neutrophils are those which are either subject to rapid turnover (i.e. those of the contractile machinery and membrane receptors) or those whose rate of biosynthesis needs to be increased during inflammation. It does not appear that mature cells actively synthesize, or upregulate during ‘priming’, those components normally present in high concentrations and/or ...

Vibrio cholerae, the causative agent of cholera, has the ability to grow and survive in the aquatic free-living amoeba Acanthamoeba castellanii. The aim of the present study was to examine the ability of the clinical isolate V. cholerae O139 MO10 to grow in A. castellanii and to determine the effect of the bacterial capsule and LPS O side chain on intracellular growth. Results from co-cultivati...

It has been discovered that, in addition to bacterial cells being stained a very dark brown or black color by Fontana's procedure, bacterial capsules are differentially stained a light brown color. Fontana (Dermatol. Wochschr., 55, 1003, 1912 and Pathologica, Genova, 4, 582, 1912) described a method for staining Treponema pallidum and other spirochetes by the AgNO3NH40H method. A similar proced...

We report an in situ encapsulation method demonstrating over an order of magnitude size reduction for the preparation of urea–formaldehyde (UF) capsules filled with a healing agent, dicyclopentadiene (DCPD). Capsules with diameters as small as 220 nm are achieved using sonication techniques and an ultrahydrophobe to stabilize the DCPD droplets. The capsules possess a uniform UF shell wall (77 n...

Haemocytes of Ephestia kuehmella adhere to foreign objects introduced into the haemocoel and form capsules around them. The fine structure of these capsules, and the blood cells which form them, has been studied by electron microscopy. By 72 h the capsule is a compact tissue, about 50-60 cells thick. The cells retain their integrity and do not form a syncytium. Cells nearest the implant develop...

Nowadays the quality inspect of soft capsules is mainly by manual. Despite the intensive of this work, the accuracy of inspection by manual is very low. This paper proposed soft capsules online sorting system based on machine vision. The inspection process are following: (1) soft capsules were placed on rollers are rotating while moving. The image of each soft capsule was grabbed. (2) automatic...

The passage and specific gravity of nylon capsules were evaluated in five trials. In individual trials, different lactating cows were fed the same diet consisting of maize silage, alfalfa hay and concentrate. In each trial the different feeds (or no feed) were used to fill the capsules. The capsules were made of nylon cloth (42 microm pore size, 10 mm external diameter). The different weights o...

In this paper, the problem of print quality inspection on pharmaceutical capsules is addressed. Good print quality, a property that makes the print legible, is of utmost importance for identification and preventing mix-ups among various types of capsules. Spatial distortion obtained at image formation process, where a 3-D surface gets projected onto a 2-D image plane, causes print appearance va...

K(+)-recognition capsules are developed to translate K(+)-recognition into a squirting release function. Upon recognition of K(+), the capsules shrink rapidly and squirt out encapsulated oil cores due to the cooperative interaction of host-guest complexation and phase transition in capsule membranes. The capsules provide a promising model for K(+)-recognition smart functional systems.
