The two membranes problem is known as a free boundary problem, which arises from a variety of applications. In this paper we extend the ideas in the paper [Wang, Han, and Cheng, SIAM J. Numer. Anal. 48 (2010), 703-733] to use discontinuous Galerkin methods to solve the two membranes problem. A priori error estimates are established, which reach optimal convergence order for linear elements.
