Scalability and reusability of tutorial dialogue systems is a function of the corresponding characteristics in their component tutoring and dialogue technologies. This paper discusses an architecture for a scalable, reusable, spoken conversational tutor, SCoT. With this design we hope to minimize the efforts needed to reuse the components for implementing a tutor in any domain, large or small.

Page 2 of 215 Abstract Embodied Conversational Agents (ECA) seek to provide a more natural means of interaction for a user through conversation. ECA build on the dialogue abilities of spoken dialogue systems with the provision of a physical or virtual avatar. The rationale for this Thesis is that an ECA should be able to support a form of conversation capable of understanding both the content a...

We present the spoken dialogue system designed and implemented for Virtual Advisers in the FOCAL environment. Its architecture is based on: Dialogue Agents using propositional attitudes, a Natural Language Understanding component using typed unification grammar, and a commercial speaker-independent speech recognition system. The current application aims to facilitate the multimedia presentation...

The DORIS project (Dialogue Oriented Roaming Interactive System) aims to develop a spoken dialogue module for an autonomous robotic agent. This paper examines the techniques used by Scusi? , the speech interpretation component of DORIS, to postulate and assess hypotheses regarding the meaning of a spoken utterance. The results of our evaluation are encouraging, yielding good interpretation perf...

At some point in their processing, natural language dialogue systems typically perform some pragmatic analysis to compute the dialogue act (or speech act, dialogue move, illo-cution, etc.) underlying an utterance. The Verbmobil system, despite the fact that it is not engaged in the dialogue but only mediates it, is no exception. At present, both symbolic reasoning and statistical recognition ar...

We i n troduce an architecture and toolkit for building dialogue managers currently being developed in the TRINDI project, based on the notions of information state and dialogue move engine. The aim is to provide a framework for experimenting with implementations of diierent theories of information state, information state update and dialogue control. A n umber of dialogue managers are currentl...

a one dimensional dynamic model for a riser reactor in a fluidized bed catalytic cracking unit (fccu) for gasoil feed has been developed in two distinct conditions, one for industrial fccu and another for fccu using various frequencies of microwave energy spaced at the height of the riser reactor (fccu-mw). in addition, in order to increase the accuracy of component and bulk diffusion, instanta...
