Tibia and fibula shaft fracture are common among young old, if they not managed correctly, can be debilitating in long term. Management of these fractures depends on severity, stability, pattern fracture. Options range from conservative management by plate to external fixation, especially the case an open Unfortunately, ideal fixation option (commonly used or nail) implant is always available op...
BACKGROUND Animal models of fracture consolidation are fundamental for the understanding of the biological process of bone repair in humans, but histological studies are rare and provide only qualitative results. The objective of this article is to present the histomorphometric study of the bone healing process using an experimental model of osteotomy in rabbit fibula without interference of sy...
OBJECTIVE To compare the fixation stability of intramedullary nails to that of locked plates for the treatment of distal metaphyseal tibia and fibula fractures. METHODS A simulated, distal metaphyseal tibia fracture was created in 8 pairs of cadaveric tibia-fibula specimens. One of each pair was treated using an intramedullary nail (Trigen IM Nail System; SN Richards, Memphis, TN) and the oth...
Rhabdomyolysis is considered a relative contra-indication to free tissue transfer because of the formation of free radicals that cause endothelial damage to the microcirculation. We describe the case of a young man who required free tissue transfer coverage of a large open fracture of his right tibia and fibula. This was performed successfully in the presence of rhabdomyolysis.
BACKGROUND The purpose of this study was to compare the biomechanical properties of locked versus nonlocked lateral fibular bridge plating of comminuted, unstable ankle fractures in a mode of catastrophic failure. METHODS We created comminuted Weber C fractures in 8 paired limbs from fresh cadavers. Fractures were plated with either standard or locked one-third tubular bridge plating techniqu...
The objective is to evaluate Elastic Stable Intramedullary Nailing (ESIN) fixation through the treatment of children’s shaft fracture of tibia and fibula. From January 2007 to January 2009, 16 cases of children’s shaft fracture of tibia and fibula had been treated by ESIN. 15 cases were followed up after the surgery and the follow-up time was 4 12 months (4.5 in average). The results turn out t...
