Phosphorylation of Tobacco mosaic virus movement protein (TMV-MP) at three carboxyterminal Ser/Thr sites negatively regulates TMV-MP gating function and viral spread in Nicotiana tabacum but not in Nicotiana benthamiana, indicating a host dependant inactivation strategy. Here, we examine the effect of mimicking carboxyterminal phosphorylation on cell-to-cell transport of TMV-MP protein itself i...

The viruses most commonly associated with food- and waterborne outbreaks of gastroenteritis are the noroviruses. The lack of a culture method for noroviruses warrants the use of cultivable model viruses to gain more insight on their transmission routes and inactivation methods. We studied the inactivation of the reported enteric canine calicivirus no. 48 (CaCV) and the respiratory feline calici...

An invitro study was conducted to investigate the antiviral properties of silver nanoparticles synthesized from fungal strain Aspergillus sps isolated from soil. The isolated and characterized silver nanoparticles exhibited as an excellent antiviral property on Bacteriophage viral strain. The viral inactivation process was increased with increasing the concentration of silver nanoparticles.

Antivenoms are preparations of intact or fragmented (F(ab')2 or Fab) immunoglobulin G (IgG) used in human medicine to treat the severe envenomings resulting from the bites and stings of various animals, such as snakes, spiders, scorpions, or marine animals, or from the contact with poisonous plants. They are obtained by fractionating plasma collected from immunized horses or, less frequently, s...

Southeast Asia is a significant area for world shrimp culture. However, in recent years, the production of cultured shrimp has markedly decreased as a result of serious viral disease outbreaks. Especially, the increased severity of widespread White Spot Syndrome Virus (WSSV) infection is the most serious threat to stable aquacultural production. In the case of Malaysia, outbreak of this disease...

With increasing outbreaks of gastroenteritis associated with produce, it is important to assess interventions to reduce the risk of illness. UV, ozone and high pressure are non-thermal processing technologies that have potential to inactivate human pathogens on produce and allow the retention of fresh-like organoleptic properties. The objective of this study was to determine if UV, ozone, and h...

Polychromatic UV irradiation is a common method of pathogen inactivation in the water treatment industry. To improve its disinfection efficacy, more information on the mechanisms of UV inactivation on microorganisms at wavelengths throughout the germicidal UV spectrum, particularly at below 240 nm, is necessary. This work examined UV inactivation of bacteriophage MS2, a common surrogate for ent...
