• Considerable evidence indicates that an adrenergic vasoconstrictor mechanism exists in the coronary vascular bed. In the classification advanced by Ahlquist,' the sites mediating this response are termed alpha receptors. Whether or not an adrenergic dilator mechanism exists also in the coronary vessels remains controversial, since it is unclear whether the decrease of coronary resistance that...

This study reports the efficacy of vasodilator sodium nitroprusside (SNP), for treatment acute cardiogenic pulmonary edema in dogs. For this study, patients were divided into SNP only group, SNP, furosemide and dobutamine non-SNP group. Seven dogs, 6 dogs 2 favorable responders group with each. The results suggest that can be an effective alternative therapy edema.

The coronary vasodilator effect of bradykinin (BK) in the rat is independent of NO but dependent on activation of phospholipases with involvement of cytochrome P450 mono-oxygenase (P450) and stimulation of Ca++-activated K+ channels, implicating an unidentified hyperpolarizing factor generated via P450 metabolism of arachidonic acid (AA). Because P450 activity also generates free radicals, such...

Long-chain omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (LCn-3 PUFA) may improve brain functions by acting on endothelial cells in the cerebrovasculature to facilitate vasodilatation and perfusion. The aim of this review is to explore this hypothesis by analyzing the effect of LCn-3 PUFA supplementation on systemic vasodilator and cognitive function and finding evidence to link LCn-3 PUFA intake, vasodi...
