Herein, we present the case of a 10-year-old child suffering from right-sided infective endocarditis with ventricular septal defect. Echocardiography revealed multiple rare large vegetations on the pulmonary valve extending into pulmonary artery along with a large vegetation over the septal leaflet of the tricuspid valve.
Streptococcus bovis endocarditis has 18%-62% association with colonic neoplasms with multivalvular involvement and affects mainly elderly males leading to severe cardiac dysfunction, septic embolization, and neurological complications. The aortic valve is the commonest valve to be affected followed by aortic and mitral valves together. However, involvement of tricuspid valve is extremely rare. ...
Spontaneous chordae rupture of the tricuspid valve is relatively rare, unlike the mitral valve. We present a 27-year-old male with chronic renal failure on hemodialysis therapy for treatment of parathyroid adenoma. The echocardiography showed the severe tricuspid regurgitation with chordae rupture which was not noted 1 year ago. In addition, the papillary muscle of both mitral and tricuspid val...
Two patients, ages 14 and 18, with congenital left ventricular-right atrial communication through a defect in the tricuspid valve were studied by echocardiography. Proof was obtained by angiocardiography and surgery in one and ultrasonic contrast injection and angiocardiography in the other. Both presented clinically as uncomplicated ventricular septal defects. Echocardiography consistently dem...
Transposition of great arteries (TGA) can be associated with left ventricle outflow tract (LVOT) obstruction. In the presence of ventricular septal defect (VSD), septal leaflet of tricuspid valve may prolapse through perimembranous VSD or rarely tricuspid valve tissue may override to produce LVOT obstruction. Occasionally, this may be mistaken for vegetation due to associated pulmonary valve en...
BACKGROUND Species of the genus Acinetobacter are Gram-negative and highly drug-resistant bacilli that normally reside on the skin, oropharynx, and perineum. Several previous studies have reported prosthetic valve endocarditis due to A. baumannii infection. CASE PRESENTATION Here we present a case of late endocarditis of a bioprosthetic tricuspid valve due to A. baumannii complex in a patient...
BACKGROUND Early outcomes after tricuspid valve replacement in young children are ill defined. The experience of the Pediatric Cardiac Care Consortium (45 centers, 1984 to 2002) was reviewed to evaluate the results of tricuspid valve replacement in children <6 years of age. METHODS AND RESULTS Ninety-seven patients who underwent initial tricuspid valve replacement are included in the present ...
BACKGROUND In patients with a right ventricle (RV) in the systemic position, tricuspid valve surgery for regurgitation beyond adolescence is a subject of debate. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the complications, survival, and benefit of tricuspid surgery in adult patients with an atrium-level correction for transposition of the great arteries or congenitally corrected transpositio...
Severe and permanent tricuspid regurgitation induced by pacemaker leads is rarely reported in the literature. The mechanism of pacemaker-induced tricuspid regurgitation has been identified, but its management has not been well established. Furthermore, debate still exists regarding the proper surgical approach. We present the case of a patient with severe tricuspid regurgitation induced by a pa...
A 60-year-old, asymptomatic woman with no relevant cardiac history underwent 2-dimensional transthoracic echocardiography as part of a study protocol. The echocardiogram (Fig. 1) indicated the presence of a large mobile mass on the anterior leaflet of the tricuspid valve without notable regurgitation or obstruction. Electrocardiographic, chest radiographic, and laboratory values were within nor...
