The purpose of this experimental study was to evaluate and record the effects of T-2 toxicity alone and in association with IBV infection on haematobiochemical parameters. A total of 128 one-week-old chicks were divided into four groups of 32 birds each and were treated respectively with T-2 toxin alone, IBV alone, T-2 toxin and co-infected with IBV, and no treatment (control) for a period of 6...

Addition of Staphylococcus aureus a-toxin to adult bovine chromaffin cells maintained in primary culture causes permeabilization of cell membrane as shown by the release of intracellular “Rb”. The a-toxin does not provoke a spontaneous release of either catecholamines or chromogranin A, a protein marker of the secretory granule, showing the integrity of the secretory vesicle membrane. However t...

Virus-mediated transfer of genes coding for intracellular toxins holds promise for cancer therapy, but the inherent toxicity of such vectors make them a risk to normal tissues and a challenge to produce due to the intrinsic dilemma that expression of toxin molecules kills producer cells. We employed pre-mRNA segmental trans-splicing (STS), in which two engineered DNA fragments coding for 5' "do...

Botulinum toxin produced by Clostridium butolinum in one of the most fatal toxins known. Botulism is the name given to condition produced by this toxin. In recent years the diluted form of this toxin has been produced in injection form and used for treatment of hemifacial spasm and blepharospasm. This toxin blocks neuromuscular junction and inhibits acetylcholine release. In this article we rep...

The Clostridium-related poultry disease, necrotic enteritis (NE), causes substantial economic losses on a global scale. In the present study, a mixture of two plant-derived phytonutrients, Capsicum oleoresin and turmeric oleoresin (XT), was evaluated for its effects on local and systemic immune responses using a co-infection model of experimental NE in commercial broilers. Chickens were fed fro...

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of cholera toxin on energy balance from intestinal glutamine metabolism and oxidation, glutamine-dependent sodium absorption, and cholera toxin-dependent ion flux. Cholera toxin-stimulated sodium and L-glutamine ileal transport and metabolism were studied in Ussing chambers. Glutamine (10 mM) transport and metabolism were simultaneously st...

Clostridium difficile (C. difficile) infection (CDI) is the main cause of nosocomial antibiotic-associated colitis and increased incidence of community-associated diarrhea in industrialized countries. At present, the primary treatment of CDI is antibiotic administration, which is effective but often associated with recurrence, especially in the elderly. Pathogenic strains produce enterotoxin, t...

Clostridium difficile, the most commonly recognized diarrheagenic pathogen among hospitalized persons, can cause outpatient diarrhea. Of 1,091 outpatients with diarrhea, we found 43 (3.9%) who were positive for C. difficile toxin. Only 7 had no recognized risk factors, and 3 had neither risk factors nor co-infection with another enteric pathogen.

t-2 toxin is the most poisonous trichothecene produced by fusarium species especially f.sporotrichioides . t-2 toxin is a biological contaminant in a number of agricultural commodities that can cause severe diseases among humans and animals and even lead to death. the aim of the current study is the analysis of t-2 mycotoxin in fusarium species by high-performance liquid chromatography (hplc) c...
