Abstract How can we engage the secular in ways that encourage empirical investigations of its specific and embodied expressions? Locating particular places situations invites scholar to recognize it, say “there it is.” However, seems difficult pin down precisely: quickly expands into everything is not considered religion a given context, distinctively evaporate nothing. This article explores sl...
Abstract I was sitting in the hall where graduation of my master’s degree taking place 2016 and noted to wife that would like one those hats are worn by university faculty recognition they have completed advanced studies doctorate level. To even such an aspiration is something am grateful for because as you about read, script life not meant unfold this way. The following account adapted from pr...
Since 1998 when SuperKamiokande announced incontrovertible evidence of neutrino oscillations, a series of experiments have unravelled most of the fundamental neutrino parameters. Two important pieces of information still await determination: the absolute value of the masses, together with their hierarchy, and the third mixing angle, for which there only exists a limit set by the CHOOZ experimen...
We present a new investigation of the intergalactic medium (IGM) near end reionization using "dark gaps" in Lyman-alpha (Ly$\alpha$) forest. Using spectra 55 QSOs at $z_{\rm em}>5.5$, including data from XQR-30 VLT Large Programme, we identify gaps Ly$\alpha$ forest where transmission averaged over 1 comoving $h^{-1}\,{\rm Mpc}$ bins falls below 5%. Nine ultra-long ($L > 80~h^{-1}\,{\rm Mpc}$) ...
Ambulance chasing is a common socio-scientific phenomenon in particle physics. I argue that despite the seeming complexity, it is possible to gain insight into both the qualitative and quantitative features of ambulance chasing dynamics. Compound-Poisson statistics suffices to accommodate the time evolution of the cumulative number of papers on a topic, where basic assumptions that the interest...
Male blowflies chase and catch other flies in fast acrobatic flights. To unravel the underlying control system, we presented a black moving sphere instead of a real fly as a pursuit target. By varying the size and speed of the target, we were able to systematically analyse the decisive visual determinants that guide chasing behaviour. Flies pursue targets of a wide range of sizes and velocities...
Humans interpret others' goals based on motion information, and this capacity contributes to our mental reasoning. The present study sought to determine whether Japanese macaques (Macaca fuscata) perceive goal-directedness in chasing events depicted by two geometric particles. In Experiment 1, two monkeys and adult humans were trained to discriminate between Chasing and Random sequences. We the...
This experiment investigated 12-month-old infants’ ability to link an event’s beginning to its probable ending. Following Csibra, Biro, Koos, and Gergely (2003). infants were habituated to a simple chasing event involving animated balls, and at test saw 2 possible endings: either 1 ball caught the other or failed to do so. Two controls were added to the previous work. First. the total amount of...
