Electrophysiological studies were performed in eight patients (four men and four women, mean (SD) age 24 (5) years with paroxysmal attacks of palpitation during or immediately after exercise. Five patients were competitive athletes at college. In two patients spontaneous supraventricular tachycardia during exercise was recorded by ambulatory electrocardiographic monitoring and in another it was...

We report the occurrence of supraventricular tachycardia during intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) infusion. Supraventricular tachycardia was observed in two newborn patients during IVIG infusion. Both of the babies responded to adenosine treatment. Cardiorespiratory monitoring during IVIG infusion can be recommended because of the possibility of this potentially lifethreatening adverse effect.

A 41-year-old male was presented with drug-resistant supraventricular tachycardia. Electrophysiological study confirmed that the supraventricular tachycardia was caused by dual atrioventricular nodal pathways and a left lateral accessory pathway (AP). The left lateral AP was resistant to traditional endocardial ablation, but was successfully eliminated by radiofrequency ablation via the intraco...

Electrophysiological effects of 2 to 2.5 mg/kg iv disopyramide were studied in 10 patients with dual nodal pathways who used a slow pathway for anterograde and a fast pathway for retrograde conduction during paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia (mean cycle length 308.5 +/- 37 ms; range 260-370 ms). Disopyramide terminated the tachycardia in six cases by production of ventriculoatrial block i...

OBJECTIVE To review the diagnosis and management of cardiac arrhythmias in a two-part presentation. DATA SOURCES Articles and published peer-review abstracts on tachycardias and bradycardias. SUMMARY OF REVIEW Normal cardiac rhythm originates from impulses generated within the sinus node. These impulses are conducted to the atrioventricular node where they are delayed before they are distri...

OBJECTIVES : To determine whether adenosine is useful and safe as a diagnostic and therapeutic agent for patients with undifferentiated wide QRS complex tachycardia. The etiology of sustained monomorphic wide QRS complex tachycardia is often uncertain acutely. DESIGN : A retrospective observational study. SETTING : Treatment associated with emergency visits at nine urban hospitals. PATIEN...

A 66-year-old woman with a 24-year history of paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia underwent an electrophysiologic procedure. The baseline sinus cycle length, atrial-His (AH), and Hisventricular (HV) intervals were 8(X). 70, and 40 msec, respectively. Programmed stimulation with a single atrial extrastimulus did not demonstrate dual AV nodal physiology and did not result in the induction of ...

Of 67 patients with reciprocal atrioventricular (A-V) nodal tachycardia consecutively studied by programmed electrical stimulation of the heart, nine patients showed second degree block toward the ventricle and one patient toward the atrium during tachycardia. In four patients the occurrence of block was critically related to the prematurity of the test stimulus initiating the tachycardia. In t...

We report the case of a 46-year old patient in whom an electrophysiology study (EP) was performed due to paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia documented in 12-lead ECG. During the EP study, supraventricular tachycardia was induced easily and it corresponded to orthodromic AV reentry tachycardia (AVRT) using a concealed left free wall accessory pathway. However, during the study AVRT spontane...
