A combination of the unique hosting properties of cyclodextrins (CDs) and the peculiar UV-responsive trans–cis isomerization of the guest molecule azobenzene has endowed light-responsibility of the inclusion complex (IC). The IC of 4-aminoazobenzene (AAB) and hydroxypropyl-b-cyclodextrin (HPbCD), with its inherent viscosity from hydrogen bondings between CDs and p–p stacking between AABs, was e...
In this study, by using X-ray powder diffraction profiles as blueprints, we successfully mapped the most probable molecular-level structural arrangement of the PMMA super-helix stereocomplexes through molecular dynamic simulations. Molecular-level resolution of the PMMA triple-helix supramolecule was not previously achievable by experimental methods. After constructing molecular models of stere...
A supramolecular probe for visual detection of mercury (Hg) has been designed by using a cyanine dye and AS1411 G-quadruplexes, which exhibits an obvious color change from red to blue in response to an increased level of Hg(2+). The supramolecular probe exhibits high selectivity and sensitivity towards Hg(2+) and is promising for the detection of environmental samples with the naked eye.
A highly selective copper (II) coated graphite sensor was prepared by 1,13-bis(8-quinolyl)- 1,4,7,10,13-pentaoxatridecane (kryptofix 5) as a supramolecule ionophore into plasticized polyvinyl chloride (PVC) membrane. The best response characteristic was observed using the membrane composition of PVC = 30.0 mg, dioctyl sebacate (DOS) = 63.5 mg, palmitic acid (PA) = 3.0 mg and kryptofix 5 = 3.5 m...
[Pb(gly)2]n (1) (gly is the abbreviation of Glycine) have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, IR, 1H NMR and 13C NMR spectroscopy. The single crystal structure of 1 show the complex is 2D coordination polymer with octahedral environment that is formed into 3D supramolecule through hydrogen bond. Structural determination of compound 1 reveals the Pb(II) ion is four coordina...
Postsynaptic density (PSD) is a protein supramolecule lying underneath the postsynaptic membrane of excitatory synapses and has been implicated to play important roles in synaptic structure and function in mammalian central nervous system. Here, PSDs were isolated from two distinct regions of porcine brain, cerebral cortex and cerebellum. SDS-PAGE and Western blotting analyses indicated that ce...
