There is a need to establish a National Sudden Cardiac Arrest registry that would track the performance and outcomes of out-of-hospital (OHCA) and in-hospital cardiac arrests (IHCA) in the country. An effective strategy to improve survival from sudden cardiac arrest in Singapore requires a multi-pronged effort targeting the community, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and the hospitals. The esta...

CPR quality is crucial. In systems that have focused on improving CPR quality, both in and out of the hospital, survival rates from sudden cardiac arrest have doubled, or even tripled.

BACKGROUND Despite advances in the management of sudden cardiac arrest, mortality for patients admitted to hospital is still greater than 50 %. Lack of familiarity and experience with post-cardiac arrest patients and lack of interdisciplinary collaboration between emergency and ICU staff have been highlighted as potential barriers to optimal care. To address these barriers, a specialized Post A...

Cardiac involvement in myotonic dystrophy type 1 (DM1) is frequent with increased incidence of conduction disturbances and sudden cardiac death when compared with general population. We describe a 38-year-old man in whom the diagnosis of DM1 was made 8 years after occurrence of cardiac arrest owing to ventricular fibrillation and discuss management of DM1 patients at risk for sudden cardiac death.

Percutenous catheter ablation of the accessory pathway in Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome is a highly successful mode of therapy. Sudden cardiac arrest survivors associated with WPW syndrome should undergo radiofrequency catheter ablation. WPW syndrome associated with familial atrial fibrillation is a very rare condition. Herein, we describe a case who presented with sudden cardiac arrest second...

Sudden cardiac arrest has been reported to occur in patients with congenital anomalous coronary artery disease. About 80% of the anomalies are benign and incidental findings at the time of catheterization. We present a case of sudden cardiac arrest caused by anomalous left anterior descending artery. 61-year-old African American female was brought to the emergency department after sudden cardia...

results according to the studies reviewed, induction of mild hypothermia in patients after cardiopulmonary resuscitation would lead to increased survival and better neurological outcome; however, studies on the complications of hypothermia or different methods of inducing hypothermia were limited and needed to be studied further. conclusions this study provides strategic issues concerning the i...

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES The optimal dialysate calcium concentration to maintain normal mineralization and reduce risk of cardiovascular events in hemodialysis patients is debated. Guidelines suggest that dialysate Ca concentration should be lowered to avoid vascular calcification, but cardiac arrhythmias may be more likely to occur at lower dialysate Ca. Concurrent use of QT-prolonging medica...

More people can survive sudden cardiac arrest when a particular sequence of events occurs as rapidly as possible. This sequence is 1) recognition of early warning signs, 2) activation of the emergency medical system, 3) basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation, 4) defibrillation, 5) intubation, and 6) intravenous administration of medications. The descriptive device "chain of survival" communicates ...
