Abstract For the design of eutectic solvents (ESs, usually also known as deep solvents), prediction solid–liquid equilibria (SLE) between candidate components is primary relevance. In present work, SLE binary solvent systems by COSMO-RS model systematically evaluated, thereby examining applicability this method for ES design. Experimental such are first collected exhaustively from literature, f...

The vapor-liquid-solid (VLS) growth model has been widely used to direct the growth of one-dimensional (1D) nanomaterials, but the origin of the proposed process has not been experimentally confirmed. Here we report the experimental evidence of the origin of VLS growth. Al(69)Ni(31) alloyed particles are used as "catalysts" for growing AlN nanowires by nitridation reaction in N(2)-NH(3) at diff...

The theoretical framework for dissolution of weak acid and weak base drug compounds in buffered media is well established. Therefore, this article is intended to provide a review of this framework and apply it to formulate buffered dissolution media based on ionic equilibrium conditions within the diffusion layer at the solid–liquid interface. The pHo in the microenvironment is identified as a ...

By focusing a high-intensity acoustic wave in liquid helium, we have observed the nucleation of solid helium inside the wave above a certain threshold in amplitude. The nucleation is a stochastic phenomenon. Its probability increases continuously from 0 to 1 in a narrow pressure interval around P(m) + 4.7 bars ( P(m) = 25.3 bars is the melting pressure where liquid and solid helium are in equil...

In this short review we look at recent advances in Schramm-Loewner Evolution (SLE) theory and its application to critical phenomena. The application of SLE goes beyond critical systems to other time dependent, scale invariant phenomena such as turbulence, sand-piles and watersheds. Through the use of SLE, the evolution of conformally invariant paths on the complex plane can be followed; hence a...

The equilibrium states of vapor and liquid coexistent phases in contact with a solid surface are studied at the nanoscale by molecular dynamics simulations for a temperature close to the fluid triple point. The characteristics of the solid-fluid interfaces are determined when the interaction strength between the fluid and the solid varies in order to go from a situation of complete drying to th...

While the stability of liquid films on substrates is a classical topic of colloidal science, the availability of nanostructured materials, such as nanotubes, nanofibres and nanochannels, has raised the question of how the stability of liquid films and their wetting behaviour is affected by nanoscale confinement. This paper will present the conditions for the stability of liquid films on and ins...

A novel physical (non-reactive) separation of cellulose from an ionic liquid (IL)/cosolvent mixture by compressed carbon dioxide is presented. The precipitation is completely reversible and rapid within small changes of pressure i.e. liquid phase CO2 composition. High pressure phase equilibrium, high pressure NMR, and solid state NMR have been utilized to understand the separation phenomena.

We study the interaction of an elastic beam with a liquid drop in the case where bending and extensional effects are both present. We use a variational approach to derive equilibrium equations and constitutive relation for the beam. This relation is shown to include a term due to surface energy in addition to the classical Young's modulus term, leading to a modification of Hooke's law. At the t...
