This paper presents a novel approach for silhouette extraction from multi-viewpoint images. The main contribution of this paper is a new algorithm for 1) 3D context-aware error detection and correction of 2D multi-viewpoint silhouette extraction and 2) 3D context-aware classification of castshadow regions. Some experiments demonstrate advantages against previous approaches.

The idea of photometric stereo is to serially vary the direction of incident illumination on the state of the holded view point, but it can locally reconstruct only the front surface to a view point. However the silhouette informations obtained by plural viewing directions provide the entire 3D structure of an object surface, but the 3D information of the region whose edge is unexposed to the v...

We present a simple method for improving the rendered appearance of coarse triangular meshes. We refine and modify the geometry along silhouette edges in real-time, and thus increase the geometric complexity only where needed. We address how to define the improved silhouette and a method to blend the modified and the original geometry continuously. §

Shape from Silhouette (SfS) is the general term used to refer to the techniques that obtain a volume estimate from a set of binary images. In a first step, a number of images are taken from different positions around the scene of interest. Later, each image is segmented to produce binary masks, also called silhouettes, to delimit the objects of interest. Finally, the volume estimate is obtained...

Silhouettes are building elements of logos, graphic symbols and fonts. These shapes can be designed exchanged in vector form, but more often they drawn, printed, scanned, or directly found digital images. Such raster forms require vectorization to get scale-invariant exchangeable formats. There is a need for mathematically well-defined justified shape process, which also provides minimal set co...
